Just sharing my personal experience with this game (around 3 hours gameplay)

On first day it was a total mess.. crashed over and over again even only when Im idle on main menu, shader compilation getting halted because this problem. VRAM and RAM usage are high

Second day, I read here that the culprit is a dll file, download the previous version of it, replace it, start the game, wait until shader compilation finish 100% and then I start a new game.

Playing it on 1080p, vsync on 75fps. With ultra setting I can get around 40-55ish fps, using FSR on quality mode I can reach 75fps stable without problem, though sometimes it drops little bit when stutter happend. But it very rarely.

So for me, replacing the dll file and waiting shader compilation finish 100% fix all my crash problem. 3 hours play and no crash happend at all. Yes its still not perfect (stutter sometimes still happend) but it much more better than my day 1 experience. I hope the dev fix it with patch ASAP

Thankfully I got this game for free from AMD Rewards :)

Can you describe your fix? I am still facing crashing problems. Now the game is not even starting!

Glad you're getting what you want out of it. That CPU is going in my next rig.

this is an old problem from version 1.0 of the game (2 days from the release date), after all of the several patch update I didnt continue my gameplay since I have other games to play on my waiting list and I thought I will play this game later when all major patch update are out. After all several updates later I saw that many players get better gameplay performance etc while there are several others that say the patch only add some new mess and problem

yeah this CPU and GPU combination are awesome !! Was upgraded from AMD FX-8350 and GTX 980.. lol

Interestingly enough, my current rig was an upgrade from a 980ti and an FX-8530.

Hahaha what a coincidence !! My combination has been served me faithfully for this past 9-ish years.. already shows its age when my mobo was died first and then the GTX 980 make my game crashed getting greyed screen more often :steamsad:

Feeling more than happy when I build my new PC with R7 7500X + RX 6700 XT, the generation gap and performance leap are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyy apart

The 980ti would actually have been in this build, but, a knackered SATA SSD made me think I'd blown it up! Never put a side mounted SATA SSD in an mATX case, the case side panel will damage both the plug and the socket on it! The 980ti was fine, but, I'd already got an RTX 2060 by then so it ended up in my niece's rig along with the old FX-8350.

I got the 5700X as I have an RTX 2080ti FE. I looked up what the best CPU for it was and then looked up the modern equivalent. Yeah it's not a monster, but, it'll do what I want it to, including (hopefully) running TLOU!

Disable SAM in driver.

Have 64 GB Page file on an SSD.

Game won't crash anymore or stutter.

I'm doing mostly 1080p60 locked with FSR2 Quality and Ultra settings (Texture Streaming Normal) on 5700 XT + R5 3600

Yeah R7 5700X are more than enough for gaming, when combined with right GPU. At first I was about to choose 5800X3D but the price difference in my country is not good, and I saw it on gaming benchmark its not that far way on fps performance

I did have the 5800X in my sights, but, the 5700X seemed as good to me. Time will tell....
hi, excuse me, i know i'm 2 years late, but could you tell me which .dll file did you change? I'm having constant crashes on my end and it is pissing me off... thank you so much!
