Why the long load for shaders?
I don’t get it!
god of war doesn’t have it!
Days gone doesn’t have it!
Spider-Man remastered doesn’t have it!
Uncharted legacy collection doesn’t have it!
Pretty much all the other Sony ports I’ve played don’t have it.
Then why the shader blurb at the bottom, and why do I have to wait so long for it to load?

It does it 1 time. Stop being a baby. Hogwarts legacy does it EVERY time.

gow, days gone, and spiderman are dx11 games, dx11 builds shaders on the fly, that's why they stutter so much during gameplay

uncharted certainly has it, it is compiled on first game launch at the main menu

no, hogwarts also does it once unless you change your gpu or drivers

if it does it every time there's something wrong with your config

Haven’t played Hogwarts legacy I’m talking about the PlayStation titles. I’ve played almost all of the pc ones, and did not have this issue (long shader compilation period) with any of the titles I mentioned. Why does this one have to have the long shader compilation time? Plus it sounds like my CPU is running overtime during this process (I hope it’ll survive lol). Hoping I will have a better experience with it in game than the other posters in the comments section.

To be honest maybe it’s my memory but I don’t ever remember having to wait this long with Uncharted. So maybe the compilation process with the shaders for that game is better.

it takes even longer in uncharted cause it compiles it for both games

it's not about "better" or "worse", it's up to your cpu

Got it! Dx11, is there any way to play the game with dx11 rather than 12 then? Or is it that the graphics are so demanding for this game that it requires to be dx12?

I’ve got 16gb ram. I was told that it’s enough for most or all of today’s games, and more is needed only for video editing etc.
Hopefully 16 is enough for last of us.

It isn't.

shader cache has absolutely nothing to do with ram

Yeah, it is a pretty ridiculously long time for this title, I saw how slow it was going, about 5 minutes for 15%. I let it keep going and hopped in the shower, 30 minutes later I came back and it was done and ready to go. I think some people are jumping in the game before the shaders load in and are getting massive lag from it. Just be patient and everything will be fine.

It's done it twice for me, it might continue to do it

I’ve never played a game that I have to wait for shaders to build, is this normal now?? rtx2070 and only 22% after 25 minutes… Never had a ps3,4, or 5 so I’ve been super excited to finally play.
we only have to do this once forever? I wish they gave more info on this

it's normal for dx12-specific titles
