Controlling move speed with sticks is significantly better than WASD movement in many games, same for triggers when driving to manage your acceleration etc.
But then you got mouse for aiming which is in every way vastly superior to sticks for accuracy and precision so.. yea.
Pro's and Cons I guess..
Funny enough when I do play games with controller, like GTA for example, I still often use the mouse when manually aiming my guns.
Feels odd using the controller in one hand and the mouse in the other but hey, it works :D

3rd person view games - controller
1st person view games - keyboard/mouse
But generally I see it like this:
Guns with "target locking" (uncharted for example) = Controller
Guns with free aiming = KBM
Melee = controller
driving = controller
For me the viewpoint makes no difference (1st/3rd person)
