Skipping TLoU Part 2 after playing Part 1
Is it possible to play Last of Us part 1 without playing number 2 and pretending that is where the story ends? (As in, does Part 1 end in a way where one could consider that the ending of the story)

Don't really want to play Part 2 with Abby and with what happened to Joel.

"and pretending that is where the story ends?" Sorry maybe I wasn't clear, I am asking if the story basically wraps up at the end of Part 1. I shall rephrase my question for those that may be on the spectrum.

It is - in itself - self-contained.
The protags walk off into the sunset (kind of).
And you can choose to close the book there.
But I suspect you know enough of the story(not to need to ask):
- if you are eager to avoid Part2
- but still want Part1

The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Interesting, thank you very much for the response. As I have not finished Part 1 before, I do not know how it ends fully (just finished the TV show) and what I heard about Part 2 and watching a few spoilers on YT and such I would prefer to avoid.

you might as well just not play and invent a whole new story in your head

I would take most of the conversation about Part II that you see online with a GIGANTIC grain of salt. A lot of it is just people getting mad for really, really ignorant, really narrow-minded reasons. Some folks don't understand that sometimes a story doesn't need to go exactly like they laid it out in their head. Sometimes stories are meant to be upsetting or even challenging.

Yeah bro, just close your eyes after you beat part 1 and youre good to go

OP, have you ever heard of "fanfiction"?

Why would you need permission to not do something? No one is forcing you to buy part 2, stop whenever you want :steamfacepalm:

Obviously. This didn't need an entire thread. It is called fanfiction. Google it, What happened to Joel is canon. Can't go around it.

Part 1 was supposed to be the ending originally, so yes.

Absolutely. Finish "part I" and AVOID "Part II" AT ALL COSTS.
CJones Mar 14, 2023 @ 8:59pm
I mean, you do know that there was no "Part 2" originally. It was just "The Last of Us". That was the end of the story until it was hugely successful and they decided to make more.
