TLOU show Ep. 4

ok so after the disaster that was ep. 3 I was very reluctant to watch this week's episode but figured I give it a watch before fully giving up on this show. ep 4 was much better than 3, it followed the game much more closely while having its own twists and turns. throughout this episode I was consistently let down by the acting however bella ramsay plays a much worse version of ellie than ashley johnson, this is evident in the car scene with the magazine where the dialogue lines were pretty much one to one with the game bella's line delivery is much weaker and so is pedro's. While the environments looks different compared the game, the thing that stuck out to me was the fight scene, there was only 3 guys attacking joel whereas in the game there are much more guys and they also completely omitted the scene where the guy almost kills joel with the sharp glass and instead had joel nearly die with ellie saving him. of course this is done later in the game in the hotel where joel is almost drowned and ellie saves him. I personally did not like this change. So far joel and ellie have zero chemistry whereas in the game by this point joel was opening up to joel in a much subtler way. Now as for the addition of Kathleen, I did not like her. She sounds & looks weak, she doesnt look like a leader nor someone who these muscular men would take orders from. The backstory behind sam and henry also seemed unnecessary for me. I did however like whatever it was that kathleen and the bearded guy found in that room with the ground moving around and stuff which I believe alludes to a bloater. I prefer the game version where u actually fight one alongside bill in the gym but this aint horrible either. Lastly, I loved the ending where ellie tells a joke about diarrhea in the jeans and joel visibly laughs, this was imo the only good thing about this episode. overall, I'd say they are moving in the right direction but joel and ellies actors in the show r definitely under-delivering their lines and lacking in performance

Basically i disagree that the tv version of Ellie is weaker i like her punchline deliveries though i think Ashley is more clearer. Bella has that uniqueness that i like and get when she delivers with a more strong and free expression. Joel i think is more subtle in his tone when he talks and shows more in his expression. The scene you compared to the glass is great for game but i like what they did here since it involves more interaction between the two and you can start to see the connection especially after she saves him.

Pedro's got Joel's expression down pact that he doesn't need to say much. He's so good at show and don't tell.

Kathleen is not very intimidating more desperate and it shows but she's got that ruthlessness. The backstory of Sam and Henry was subtle. They showed alot through drawings in the attic and the actresses shows her expression well like she's almost feels bad in the attic with Sam and Henry.

Overall they did a admirable job.

I didn’t like Kathleen, she is not a hot authoritative woman and therefore would not be able to command respect to lead a faction, I feel the show is trying to be woke by having a female mob leader which is completely unrealistic, I’d rather a male character instead of Kathleen.

I thought the delivery of Bella and Pedro were quite decent.

I know Bella and Pedro were told not to play the game before they begun filming so that the delivery of the same lines from the game didn't have a copycat "tone" to them, Take the scene in the car when Ellie pulls out er.. "that magazine".. Bella obviously agreed but Pedro was said to have played or at least watched the game on YouTube so he could get a feel of how Joel should be portrayed.

Bella's delivery of the line "whooaaaahhh how'd he even walk around with that thing" was less enthusiastic than the same line as in the game, it made ellie in the game seem more "animated" to me, definitely not the kind of response you would expect to hear from a girl whom has a preference for girls.

I found episode 3 a bittersweet beautiful ending. It's an episode that is like a long hallmark moment that you would hardly find in post apocalyptic situations. After the ending i figured that things would get more tense afterwards. I saw it as a big interlude a break so they go back in track and into danger again.

"hot authoritative" is a tired trope.
When you say that, I imagine DC Heros-of-Tomorrow acting.

Saying that, I absolutely think she'll get mutinied.

The problem about 'live' vs 'animation' is you can pull some models out of the environment and reprocess/render. You can't do that after you've filmed it.
I see her as a competent leader of a smaller group, not half-a-batallion.

I was scared that Bella wasn't going to make a good Ellie, but she surprised me. I think she plays a good Ellie. As for Joel, I think Pedro has nailed it. Now, I agree with you on Episode 3; it was terrible, and in fact, I plan to cut a bunch of forced scenes out of it. All the other episodes were, in my opinion, great.

Episode 3 was great. Personally I think they should have made it a 2 parter. Have part one like we had and then at the end when Bill and Frank leave this world, have it how Frank wanted it and having Bill stay, and then at the end Joel and Bella turn up and now begins part 2. So we then get what's missing from the game version.
That would have worked.
