I don't see how it doesn't stick out given that mecha rarely does this at all. The facelessness of Armored Core's characters and them being represented purely through their AC or whose payroll they're on is integral to its identity as a series. This gives players room to fill in the blanks which does wonders to build an air of intrigue behind every pilot. It's probably something that lacks impact or goes unnoticed to players that are devoid of imagination, which is probably what DrWilyeCoyote is since he lashed out and thinks I meant that I want a live action that just looks like gameplay.
I get that Secret Level probably doesn't follow this tradition because it's harder to tell a story that way in live action (and because From knows gaijin love Keanu Reeves and his mere presence practically prints money), but if it had any balls it would.

It's not like you don't have a point. But it never stuck out to me as a defining factor. Sure in all games most characters express themselves by their mechs, still they do have lives and I don't think it's a deal breaker to show them in the flesh. Other aspects like the dark nihilism of the setting stick out much more, plus showing a character and then destroying everything that makes it human could also work very well as a narrative device.
