It is best to just shrug and accept it is Zelda ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

There will be references, constantly. Even small things like the fact the first medium Arquebus brand torso looks like a body introduced in AC3.

But unless it is an explicit expansion pack for that numbered era, you go with "Maybe"

AC5 era does go hardest on "Okay so past game probably happened", to be fair. Even if it would have to be a "So you picked the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ending where we are still trapped on earth" timeline.

Because we are back in SPACE in 6. And a huge part of 4 was "oops, trapped ourselves on earth with Death satellites from a previous corpo war. Which is why Kojima particles being so radioactive they can give literally anything cancer is extra bad."

But 5 wouldn't follow 4 in a timeline if you got the "can leave for space again" ending" regardless of the Kojima particles and NEXT boss fight.

But all the rest are very far removed from eachother.

1 era: So a conspiracy AI is controlling your your dystopia.

2 era: Welcome to MARS. With ancient mars biorobots! (I have had people tell me that supposedly some later released lore book backwalked that to "uh. humans did it. honest" But now we are back to literal alien lifeforms, alien AC lore justified!).

3 era: So a conspiracy AI is controlling your underground earth colony-wait didn't we do this already? *proceed to wake up even worse self evolving AI skynet in the expansions oops*

4 era: Kojima particles give literally everything cancer. Even things that shouldn't be able to get cancer! Also we need to club some seals to break the replicating satellite lasers we trapped ourselves on earth with.
