Though a big part of that is admitting pulse weapons are trash. Won't to much to a pulse shield, constantly overheating, etc.
Meanwhile tutorial machinegun will be wrecking the bubbles on everything from start to finish. low recoil arms like basho can also barely handle the full magazine before spread happens for the tutorial uzi, while good old basic melander arms can handle the box fed MG while still having over 100 melee stat.
Along those lines, twin machineguns means mega spread no matter what arms you use. I forget if the new oversized MG can avoid that, but for the rest not even the wrecker arms could handle double trigger if I remember right. Back when I was bothering with PvP, I would constantly be reminded of this winning shootouts with 1 MG vs a guy with 2 tracing a circle around me.
The only shortfall is dealing with a mountain of spam, you might run out of ammo one last stagger before the finish line, if you don't ensure to only fire when not in deflect range.
But yeah sometimes the stagger happens at the wrong time but its managing your ammo and waiting the good moment or more playing with the songbirds AOE for building the stagger. Im french so my english is not perfect ^^
People saying machines guns being useless are either the hardcore PvP players or ones who may not be as experienced. While machine guns are no way as strong as pistols, they are way more usable. The game itself even tell people that a machine gun on its own may not be the strongest weapon but if you pair it with another, the things I said before in my prior post holds true.
Sometimes as well there is the case that a build you make can be so complex to use that your 4th weapon needs be a very simple yet reliable weapon that can constantly and easily dish some damage/stagger which MGs offer.
In my opinion, MGs are great weapons. They may not be the most powerful, but great nonetheless.
But then, the devs also thought pulse guns were cool. And those are trash even for their niche of anti shield weapons. sooooo...
First playthrough of the game was dual MGs, pulse gun and pulse blade. My go-to after that was just an adjustment, dual needle guns, pulse cannon and rotary laser slicer.
If you play fast and close-in, they absolutely hound enemies point blank, and are very forgiving if you miss shots or waste ammunition. It's steady damage, but most people prefer big bursty weapons.
Even super guns like the coral beam will have the enemy simply sidestep unless you fire it within machinegun effective range. Plus having rifles makes the AI warp away to literally 4,000 distance (Then lazily teleport directly to you for melee) more often.
Thanares kicking ass with rifles is something they should be proud of. Because the game has very anti rifle design at times. Another part of this seems to be AI threat assessment. single fire rifle and the enemy will let you shoot them when they are still at low stagger like they are braindead. But bring the burst fire rifle, and even the drug addict dozers will spam side dodges.
This effect is also why people mistake the laser pistols as overpowered. No, the AI just judges it as "Too weak to spam dodges against" letting you dump most of your shots into them, until they are risk of being staggered.
All this has lead to my most effective twin rifle builds being... stop shooting the rifle once they are at high stagger, and either use something else to tagger them or let their meter drain to put their AI back into "Let me shoot them" mode.
