Have you ever played an Ace Combat or EDF game? That's more or less what you should expect from this game.
Appreciate it, man. Definitely felt like this was more of a souls like game. It still sounds intriguing though.
I'd say give it a shot with those in mind but not the idea of pure Soulslike gameplay in mind. Think of it like a """""SoulsLike"""""" but in a very, VERY different form.
If that makes sense.
I put all those quotes for a reason because as I said, its still a fromsoft game with fromsoft BS, but it is a unique beast of its own.
If you delight in working out builds and strategies, you will like AC6
Besides that both games have a completely different feel to them.
AC6 is mostly linear. You pick a mission, complete the objective and return to base where you can tweak your mech and buy stuff. Most missions take around 5-10 minutes or less if you know what you're doing. A couple missions are larger and more open ended but for the most part they're a short "in and out" affair. There are short dialogue sequences before and after each mission and occasionally cutscenes during a mission. AC6 has more direct storytelling but there's still a lot left up to your interpretation.
Combat is also a different beast entirely because your mech isn't rooted to the ground. There is no traditional dodge button and no iframes. You avoid damage purely through movement. You use the "quickboost" to zip around. Left or right or up and over. The heavier weapons in the game will also root you in place for a second as you fire them possibly leaving yourself open to enemy attacks. The game is also just faster than dark souls too. Your mech is faster, the enemies are faster, everything is just faster.
Something else that separates this game from Dark Souls is that you're not locked into a build. When you sell parts back to the shop you get all your money back. If you die to a boss the game will give you the option to enter the garage and adjust your build with the caviate that you can't purchase parts. What works against one boss may not work against the next one. Don't be afraid to experiment.
I REALLY wish Fromsoft would have released a demo for this game. Chapter 1 would be a perfect showcase for what kind of a game AC6 is.
I'll also link this video. The content creator is similar to you in that he'd never played AC before trying AC6.
