The pvp in this game game is scuffed, but fun. Would you like it? That's something only you can answer by trying it.
That being said you have to clear act 2 to even unlock multiplayer so you cant avoid the single player. Nor should you as that is where all the parts are going to come from. (I also think single player is a ton of fun so take that for what it's worth)
PvP? lagfest, worthless and meaningless ranked nullified due to lag and exploits.
3v3 casual games are fun for a while, but there's an overabundance of cheeselords that play it like it was an actual ranked match even in casual lobbies.
Did I mention the netcode sucked? yeah, the netcode sucks.
You cannot be 100% honest to yourself and say you play this competitively, because it doesn't have the means to be competitive in it's current state, not even for a casual player playing ranked matches.
Latency 90% dictates the outcome, that and who cheeses harder.
It's a race of who and or what setup can make that stun meter go up faster, then instakilling them afterwards (or leaving them at 1%), and who deals the best with the horribly implemented netcode. I'm talking 0 to death-s out of stuff you literally don't see, being the most common occurrence.
Again, fun because of the game feel, which they nailed and i'd even say overdelivered like mad, I seriously can't do anything but praise the game at it's, no pun intended, core.
It's by far the best mech game out there, not even close.
But pvp get's boring once you notice how everything is pretty much RNG on matchmaking and latency, and a broken and barely deserving of the comparison ''rock paper scissor'' of currently viable setups (that may or may not rotate with one or other patch, but mostly remains the same in concept).
Question is, you want ''party game pvp'' or ''competitive pvp''? because casual play is an absolute blast if you kick unwanted douchebags (exploiters, meta hyper abusers, or laglords)
But ranked matches are a literal joke, and barely mean anything.
