Armored Core is definitely sci-fi, but it's not stealth or open world game.
There is a "stealth" factor in this game where you can take enemies by surprise, but it's very difficult to sneak in a 10m tall mech that weighs several tons of steel and bullets. You will do very little stealthing, but lots of shooting and maneuvering at high speeds. There is A stealth mission, but it's not worth writing home about.
AC games are also mission-based. You select missions from a menu then go out and complete them. Exploration exists, as some maps have hidden goodies to find. But it's all restricted to the confines of mission map.
You will be spending a great deal of time surfing said menus, especially in the garage customizing your mech. That's half of the fun, and will account for a part of your success/failure in any given mission.
At the very least, try the game for yourself and set a timer for just under two hours. Get your money back if you hate it.
After 60 minutes, I can say that this game is a lot of fun. The very first boss fight wasn't a "gimme" type of fight, which was nice. It was a good enough fight to let me know, I just gotta be a better gamer. Buy it when it's on sale and if by some chance you don't like it, then get a refund.
But then....its the internet.
In fact, From Soft games have always have simple premise and fundamentals, they only expand after you go deeper into the game.
The core of the game is Mech Building.
What are you talking about
And unless you are stuck with the copter, you can get to the Mech building in 60 mins me think.
