The only bosses that are gimmicky in this game are Ice Worm though, because it somewhat encourages the player to use a weapon (the Stun needles), and arguably the starter helicopter.
All other bosses don't rely on any gimmick or any build.
The game has also nerfed many OP weapons rendering the rest of the games way harder compared to release version, with AC fights replacing the bosses in difficulty.
Ice Worm isn’t a gimmick. It has a specific weakness, you see the same type of thing in gaming since Mega Man.
But yeah, when you put it like that, I guess this game actually has no gimmicky boss.
If anything, the Dark Souls games were Armored-Core-likes, with how FromSoft took their classic AC wall of stats and numbers and applied it to an adventure RPG human instead of a mech.
I think the only new things to Armored Core that would seem familiar after playing Dark Souls is that you can heal a few times per mission (with repair kits) and the enemies and bosses have health bars.
To me (controller+ soft lock enjoyer), the game plays exactly like Armored Core.
OOT has hard lock, must be a souls game lul
There also 3x repairs too that being mentioned for comparison with Estus from Dark Souls. But for my opinion, repairs in AC6 is not enough to be considered as souls-like, because the repair(heal) happened in instant. The game doesn't have healing/repair animation from Souls-like which giving risk from getting killed before healed or get critical health again right after healed (edit note: it still does, but less prevalent).
Just removing the 3x repairs but add them into total Armor Points would end up similar result, with exception no more instant death from pilebunker, death from stagger combo and Arena AP.
Oh, Zelda OOT. Well... I can bet many will call it souls-like if being made by Fromsoft. LOL
I think this game is amazing and you should try it. ;)
