Is this a souls like game with mechs?
I never really got into the armored core games, but I have a few questions about this one?

1. Does it play like a souls like with mechs (flasks, bonfires, exploration, etc...)
2. I know this game is all about customizing your main mech, is melee possible, or are you really going to be making various ranged builds?
3. As someone who has played and loves nearly ever souls like, (and some mech warrior games) would this be something that might interest me?

Estus flasks aren't even inherently a souls-like mechanic. They're portable medical kits, which have been around since the 90s. They're just not a common item.

Bonfires: no. Checkpoints, yes. Closer to how Halo works. You reach a certain point and the game auto-saves your checkpoint.

Exploration: some.

AC6 pushes you to fighting in close range. Melee is absolutely viable, but it's only one part of all you can do.

Mechwarrior games only let you change the guns. Armored Core games let you change EVERYTHING.

Souls games give this air of oppression, because anything and everything can kill you. AC6 is a power fantasy through and through. If a lowly MT kills you, you seriously suck at the game. The gimmicky bosses are the only thing remotely souls-like this game has to offer. But bosses with attack patterns have been around since forever.

The classic AC games are arguably more "souls-like" because they actually are harder (for game design reasons, not AI reasons) (it's also more the case Souls is Core-like in its difficulty). The lowly MT's aren't so lowly, they punch back quite hard. Alongside features like debt, the turning speed stat, and EN shortage penalties, all of that there to encourage smarter gameplay.
But AC6 is made for onboarding new players. The style of the classic games are too hard for most people. So they made AC6 pathetically easy. The only time the difficulty spikes is when you get a boss battle. But since those have been "nerfed," the only thing AC6 has to offer as a challenge has been "ruined" (depending on who you ask).
Some minor correction.
The only bosses that are gimmicky in this game are Ice Worm though, because it somewhat encourages the player to use a weapon (the Stun needles), and arguably the starter helicopter.
All other bosses don't rely on any gimmick or any build.

The game has also nerfed many OP weapons rendering the rest of the games way harder compared to release version, with AC fights replacing the bosses in difficulty.

Ice Worm isn’t a gimmick. It has a specific weakness, you see the same type of thing in gaming since Mega Man.

Ice Worm isn’t a gimmick. It has a specific weakness, you see the same type of thing in gaming since Mega Man.
Eh, I'm not sure what gimmicky boss Blackmage means, but my definition means it revolves around a certain specific weakness i.e. a gimmick, but since it's actually rather easy to just deal with the Ice Worm the normal way, it just takes a wee bit longer.

But yeah, when you put it like that, I guess this game actually has no gimmicky boss.

This is an Armored Core game, not a Souls game. It plays like Armored Core games, with customization in the garage in between missions or arena fights.

If anything, the Dark Souls games were Armored-Core-likes, with how FromSoft took their classic AC wall of stats and numbers and applied it to an adventure RPG human instead of a mech.

I think the only new things to Armored Core that would seem familiar after playing Dark Souls is that you can heal a few times per mission (with repair kits) and the enemies and bosses have health bars.

To me (controller+ soft lock enjoyer), the game plays exactly like Armored Core.

Lol yea.
There also 3x repairs too that being mentioned for comparison with Estus from Dark Souls. But for my opinion, repairs in AC6 is not enough to be considered as souls-like, because the repair(heal) happened in instant. The game doesn't have healing/repair animation from Souls-like which giving risk from getting killed before healed or get critical health again right after healed (edit note: it still does, but less prevalent).

Just removing the 3x repairs but add them into total Armor Points would end up similar result, with exception no more instant death from pilebunker, death from stagger combo and Arena AP.

I played many souls game before and I have never ever touched a mech game in my life.
I think this game is amazing and you should try it. ;)
