STOP SAYING "GIT GUD" NOW!
Edit: STOP REPLYING WITH GIT GUD! IT MAKES ME SO MAD!

It's just a misconception that souls games and games with souls-like boss fights require some high degree of general gaming skill like Pong or Uno when in fact all that's necessary to progress is to take your time, observe, and approach obstacles from an angle of experimenting and learning until you discover the easy, reliable methods to overcome them. The phrase "git gud" implies, sometimes intentionally and sometimes not, that there is some sort of broad competence that separates good players that can beat bosses from bad ones that can't and that only beating one's head against a wall for thousands of hours could possibly make up this difference. The truth is that while a little wall bashing is required, it's mostly what you put into your head, not bang against it, that truly matters. -Melon Goodposter

I always think of PC gamers as analogous to surgeons. Who's the better surgeon: one who spent ten hours studying before his first surgery, or one who just winged it on a stray cat ten times? That's obviously a trick question because the best surgeon has done a little of both, and that's the kind of gamer you want to be.

For these reasons I propose an alternative but equivalently usable phrase which should more effectively communicate advice on how to approach these challenges: "Put on your learning cap, Chum!"

When hearing this friendly suggestion, instantly players that go on social media to complain about bosses being unfair or unfun will have their perception warped and all misconceptions cleared up. They will be transported back to their simple and carefree school days where the solution to any problem was as easy as waking up at 6 am, listening to lectures for 6 hours, and then going home and doing a couple handfuls of paperwork before spaced repetition memorization drills until it was time to brush their teeth, pray, and go to sleep.

They will understand that beating the boss is not something only a genius can do like clap with their eyes closed, but instead a simple exercise in studying and passing a fun quiz in video game form. There is a solution to every attack the boss does and it is up to you to learn it, memorize it, and put it into practice, so say it with me: Put on your learning cap, Chum!

I really hope this takes off soon or the steam user score might drop to 85% and From will have no choice but to pack it in and give up on designing hard games and start making Fortnite skins instead, so I expect everyone to do their part, okay?

You can just say "Learn the fight, become better", it's way less patronizing than "get/git gud/good"

Git gud. It's not hard.

I’ve been in the souls community for a fair bit now, and spent a good amount of time in the subreddits and other forums. In my experience, 99% of the time “git gud” is either being used ironically as a joke, or deployed against people who are obviously hostile and looking for a fight.

If people make a post saying “hey, boss X is really tough, can I get some advice?” The community is overwhelmingly supportive and flood the comments with tips, tricks, and guides. If people come in saying “the boss is badly designed, game is ♥♥♥♥, souls players are losers who’ve never gone outside, why are you all so toxic” then the “git guds” start rolling in.

The people who were quite vigorous about spreading that misconception in the first place were the original batch of Souls fans. They were quite willing to puff up or even exaggerate the difficulty of the Souls games so that they could distinguish themselves as the "real gamers" from the "casuals" who played carefree, soft, forgiving things like... Call of Duty multiplayer, it seems.

lmao, what a sad joke, if any. Fromsoftware shills would see their mothers to make their games rank go up 1%. Not going to happen.

While having a good strategy works wonders on many of their games, a little-to-ridiculous amount of "good reflexes" is still required to react to the load of shenanigans those games throw at you.

Fun fact, i am one of those. I have ♥♥♥♥-tier reflexes and can't read many attacks of fromsoftware bosses, no matter how telegraphed they are. I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ know it, i feel like a disabled player while having no IRL disability, compared to the average of people posting here. :steamhappy: :steamsalty:

I suppose Git Gud is too strong for their fragile psyche...
BE PROSPEROUS

Good for you you find those people overwhelmingly supportive. To my experience, the average fromsoftware enjoyers are mostly exalted noisy pricks.

Passive-aggressive response behavior and herd-based mentality.
Let alone the "Git gud" pseudo-joke is braindead in both its origin and purpose.
But... whatever floats your boat, i guess?

Yes it is, otherwise 1/3 of people like me wouldn't have quit

It's true, the git gud talk was nice in souls, it used to be used against people who were whining that the Souls games are to hard, while all it truly took is some perserverance and learning to dominate these games. Nowadays however, whe From's titles like Elden Ring and Armored Core 6 get more complex, there is more about them than just overcoming adevrsity.

The only crowd that shouts "git gud" nowadays are either people who just do it by reflex from old times and think nothing further about it, or morons who are insulted that there are strong builds in this game, and are offended that more casual players can reach the same level they can

At what point? Some early "filters" as people call them just require some understanding of the game, that game doesn't tell you about. We'll gladly help you come back, there is a really amazing game behind the bosses. Especially if you fell out around chapter 2/end of chapter 1
StoneofTriumph Sep 9, 2023 @ 9:09am
And let's face it- FromSoft games have a long history of being jank, so there may be some problems you can't necessarily "Git Gud" about other than recognizing that they exist.

literally the reason why you get people still saying git good is becuase we have tried 1000 times to help people to try and walk them though how to improve and instead of listening they want to throw everything out and tear the game down. they dont want to play the game they want to watch a game "movie", how dare the game expect them to learn the game mechanics they should be able to do what ever they want etc etc.

git good is just the Im tired of dealing with the babies hiding behind private profiles who probably don't even play the game they are just !@#$ing on it because its better than some game that they like and how dare it be more liked.
