Imo the answer is clear which one is better.
Good: Got an S rank with a proper charged chainsaw 'skipped a healing phase' kill on nightfall. (Chainsaw can CAUSE a stagger, then shred more when it works right...)
Bad: fighting them again with chainsaw, after a stagger and hitting them in the face with the chainsaw... they just warped downwards to avoid the second swing, and stabbed me with their spike.
Spike driver is more practical because it gets the job done in one hit. The weaker stab is also solid against some annoying PCA units that just matrix dodge chainsaws even when stunned.
To get the most out of the chainsaw you probably need a high normal boost speed build, as the chainsaw charge cancels assault boost, and quick boosting resets it.
Maybe try terrifying the people crying about missile wheelchairs by running a chainsaw wheelchair, unless you can get a biped or RJ with an even faster ground speed. "Come back! Come back! You said you hated keep away missile tanks!"
If one of the top causes of annoyance was not air staggered enemies being so jank that even the laser lance can just glitch through them, I would be using the chainsaw way more often.
(baton multi attack is weaker so it has issues staggering. Knife multi is weaker. But knife ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rules at 'kill a crowd of shielded MT no cooldown no waiting'. Baton needs the full combo that leaves you vulnerable for that. )
Pile bunker wiped out like 80% of a staggered Ibis and thats pretty much how i won that fight.
The fact that you REALLY have to be up their face to hit is really annoying, ive whiffed some charged hit because the thing would not move a single inch forward to the defenseless, staggered target, which is kinda why im asking if some prefer the chainsaw, it does at least have a little boost on charge attack and the higher direct hit stuff, but yeah it is pretty slow unlike the very strong single impact of the PB...
baton + stun gun + 2 needles cannons does seem like a fun combo...
Iblis is just super jank. Even the infamous laser lance+spike combo is more reliant the game not bugging out. Last time I tried using the lance that ruins the day of touch PCA units, iblis just warped to 200m away as part of her stagger animation, somehow, when I lanced her.
Which is why my last run on her was just the spike with a side of needle pistols (on electric damage, as far as i know.)
Enemy AC with the chainsaw can catch you off guard because in a plot twist, the hefty looking BAWS torso actually has one of the higher booster stats in the game. Roughly on par with even the Final rusty torso, if with sub par energy modifiers.
