Small complaint : no weapon feels like an upgrade
I'm not asking for every piece of stuff to be more overpowered than the last, fram from it, because I like diversity in gameplay, but after unlocking 4 melee weapons (which took so much time btw), my problem is that I feel like the best of them is still the default one : more responsive with only 2 combo and damage. I get that there should be some tradeoff between pieces of stuff, but I'd also like to get some upgrades, nothing really feel like significant change (because most missions are way too easy no matter what you use, while others favour ONE build to the extreme).

I'm torn between "I like the gameplay" and "it reminds me of AC Nexus" to "why can't I use dual melee because I need to buy weapon for right AND left arm separatly but there is no right hand melee?". Meanwhile all guns can be dual wielded leading to some OP combos...

I feel the opposite. All the sustained fire weapons seem piddly-weak for stagger and damage to me (other than the chain-guns).

ARs and SMGs seem... very meh.

Well, there is a second shotguns that are much better than previous one but overall I agree.
I blame Raven Nest for it for it is oblivious attempt to be balanced, Even if it much better version of the previous weapon damage wise it will have bigger weight and longer reload.
New weapon types are the real upgrade. And you also recieve some quirky weapon here and there like that "firework" missiles, that have minimal reload time between firing it's 3 packs but much bigger one when you fired the third.
Honestly that's pretty AC, often times a build you get really good with dmnever has an upgrade, and if you can upgrade uts often in the form of more, you go from 10 rockets to 12 or 16 even but it costs weight and speed so is it worth it? It's the same damage just more....
Some weapons are direct upgrades for little loss in performance but that's a general theme usually.

That's also the case with Souls if i have to be honest.

The first shotgun is garbage but people are too busy crying the non-♥♥♥♥ shotgun is overpowered, yeah.

I am also fond of the needle pistols. Which list worse damage but actually kick ass because of their fast reload and bigger effective range.

Meanwhile, the huge double barrel laser rifle IS a "straight upgrade" in all performance. But it weighs nearly 8,000 for hitting nearly as hard as a laser cannon but faster.

An important thing about AC is that (most) parts are not going to be bad, only jank or shameless AI makes them bad. I am in NG++ and I am going back to the non DLC melander legs constantly.

It could be worse. we could be in a New Vegas situation where people brag about all the garbage rusty farmer guns as "variety" and then they never use them again as they speedrun their favorite unique super guns anyway. Even the basic baby starter rifle is solid for MT cleanup all game, if you wanted to stick with it. But you are generally better off specializing or bringing a bigger gun.

This is very much intended, if you want an "upgrade" you need to run a heavier unit, and that comes with downgrades of it's own.

I agree. I used the default sword until I got the moonlight one. I tried other. but none really felt as good. I am still using the bazooka that I unlocked right after Balteus. And once I equipped the spring chicken legs, nothing else even crossed my mind. I was thinking there would be an upgrade to those legs but it never happened.
I think the real problem is that they unlock parts in the shop as you go along, which you would naturally think means better gear to face off against stronger opponents by common video game logic. It's another reason I would have preferred they just give you every part right off the bat and start letting you tinker away immediately. Also wish they'd let you customize parts directly (strengthening the thrust of a booster but increasing its power drain, sacrificing firepower on a gun to bring the recoil down, etc.)
They did seem to design the game so that everything can be "viable" in the right build.

But some weapons are definitely upgrades over others in practice. Not because they necessarily are stronger, although some really are - like the Zimmerman heavy shotgun is 100% better than the smaller shotgun in pretty much any case. The reason they are better is because they let you make better builds that let you do insane things.

I'm in NG+ right now and still have a fair amount of things to unlock and find (in chests and from log hunting and so on). But I have gotten most things already, and I definitely found upgrades worth it as I went through the game. This game isn't designed to make weapons completely obsolete though, and I'm fine with that design principle. The stronger a weapon is, the slower it tends to reload/fire and the heavier it tends to be - there are always trade-offs.

I will agree on one case now that I have the "you got ALL the parts! wow!" cheevoes to prove it.

We have three reverse joints, all three are good at something.

We have three tanks, all three are good at something.

Why. Are there only. TWO. Quad/Tetrapod legs?

I would agree. The one thing to consider also are the OCT upgrades. You CAN upgrade a whole type of damage thus those weapons, and in the first run you there is some strategy to it, but you do get enough to upgrade everything at some point, but yeah, in the same weapon class / type its more damage but always trading stats like weight / reload / ammo. Personally, I'm ending chapter four (I think the end of OST drops) and I have maxed direct damage, maxed melee, and second tier of energy, kinetic, and explosive (I also have all unlocks, max damage mitigation, third tier repair, and pulse armor)

Stun needle cannons are definitely an upgrade. TO EVERYTHING.
HypetheKomodo Sep 3, 2023 @ 5:19am
You get chainguns at the very start of Chapter 2.

The upgrade scale goes from okay to over the top in the blink of an eye.

Mind beta but you need to go lighter on the weight. worth it though if you can adjust your build, spring chicken is slow af
