Is there shame in using a cheese build on [spoiler boss]
Arquebus Balteus, purely because of the flashing strobe lights. I actually can't concentrate enough to beat him, and I beat CEL-240 in less than a day (felt like an amazing achievement when every other end chapter boss except Ice Worm took at least a day or two).

I'd probably come back to him when they patch it, but I don't want to wait for them to release a patch just to continue playing. Who knows how long that will take.

No. The game is piss poor balanced. Use what you want and then bathe in the collective "knowledge" that this game is really "hard"....

Everyone loves sucking FS off. Double Zimmerman and double songbird is the epitome of personal skill

Yeah, sure, why not?
As long as you beat him and progress, that's good enough.
Unless you are exploiting some unknown or bug you can't really cheese anything on your first time. Fromsoft games don't work that way. Not using your arsenal is more like cheesing yourself.

You can always play NG+ or a new save to experience or challenge yourself in different ways.

I dunno, I haven't had an issue with the balance but the game has definitely pissed me off at times. The only boss I truly had issues with was the enforcement officer because his fast movement coupled with such a small room meant the camera kept getting caught on things. First time I genuinely thought the game was being unfair.

I guess, but I've been trying to stay away from these heavy builds that grind down a boss in seconds. Having used a lightish build and modifying the weapons for each boss, it felt amazing once I finally took them all down, but I'm reaching my limit when the flashing strobe effect is giving me a headache and stopping me from actually fighting the damn thing lol

Not really true here, you can literally equip these weapons near the beginning of the game, in the first run with no extra effort than just purchasing them in the store. They then can carry you through every single boss in the game very easily. The balance here IS poor.

Plus the NG+/NG++ modes do not add any extra difficulty, just a few new missions. Granted a few of those are more tricky but not unless you limit yourself on purpose as you'll have end-game AC parts by then too which negate that extra difficulty.

Edit: Thanks for the jester award, further proving the fan boys can't accept criticism when it comes to fromsoft.

I guess it's my playstyle then. I'm someone who doesn't feel rewarded in this game by using a build that can drain the boss in seconds, I've had much more fun adapting my build but keeping something that still makes the boss a challenge, allowing me to learn to dodge the attacks instead of making the battle one-sided. My point is I'm kind of stuck here because the strobe glitch is making me physically incapable of beating the boss, and I'm not sure how much I trust fromsoft to release a patch for it soon seeing as I don't have much experience with their games outside of console.

It depends on what you like I guess.
I have beaten Balteus with light build ranged, it's definitely a different experience. And fun.
You are like a VF dodging Itano circus.

Can't help with the strobes tho, maybe you can turn some of the effects down in the menu.
No there isn't, as much as there should be no stigma attached to getting your ass kicked by said boss. Its supposed to be a war game, so cheese is the default way to play, anything more than that is all about bragging rights. Sides the game is already slanted against you to start since the best gear is locked behind secret chests, log hunts and New Game++.

Like they say in West Point, "The only fair fight is the one you lose."

It's specifically about the Arquebus variant (which is why I put spoilers in the title).

I remember when I first read about Balteus and saw guides popping up, thought he was some late game boss. When I saw him show up at the end of chapter 1 I actually said "oh ♥♥♥♥" lol

And to OP and everyone else, you only lose when you give up.
This is for video games and life in general.

Do whatever you want to win, and don't give up! 👍

I'm going to use whatever makes S ranking every mission easier, don't care about the people crying about OP weapons, I will simply use what works for me to my advantage (Zimmermann shotgun, and Trueno needle missile)

I feel like cheese doesn’t really apply here and is a carryover from souls fangirls exploiting bugs or things From didn’t specifically anticipate. These same folks often consider summon ashes cheesing, of all things. If a developer designs something and you use it how the game lets you, don’t let these clowns tell you you’re “robbing yourself” of an experience.

In the AC world there are no knockouts.
chima Sep 2, 2023 @ 8:41pm
double pulse guns + stagger punish doesn't seem like cheese to me... just seems like a rational way of exploiting the boss's weakness?
Nyarlathotep Sep 2, 2023 @ 8:46pm
Beat him however you want. I'm currently doing a low tech playthrough with an all BASHO frame and no advanced tech weapons and doing fine, so just do it in a way you enjoy.
Charsiew Sep 2, 2023 @ 8:47pm
Old AC games already have their cheese method to progress, no different in this game.
