Unless I'm missing something, OS Tuning Kinetic Damage is mostly worthless.
If only because the damage of kinetic damage weapons is generally like, in the low triple digit range at best. The ONLY one that really benefits from it is the Zimmerman shotgun because it does nearly 1,000 damage per shot. Otherwise you're getting such small returns for all the OS spent it's but worthless. The Hu-Ben gatlings? 25 damage per shot. Oh goodie, at maximum OS tuning they do a staggering...28 damage rounded down.

It probably helped me murder Iblis with twin needle handguns faster. But yeah in percentage based videogame moon math land, rapid fire always loses out to big boy hits.

For line rifle life it did change some trash MT charge shots that would be 99% killed into full one hit kills, too. But yeah that felt more like "Should have been that strong in the first place" than a reward.

That said, I went through my first NG with zero points into damage type boosters, just direct hit damage. it wasn't until NG+ extra arena fights I cleared those out.

it's not (chainguns), but if you go through everything, you'll have enough chips for all OS stuff so it's kind of a moot point.

I just mentioned the chainguns. At max level it boosts the damage from 25 to 28. That's not really a huge amount.

I mean, 15% bonus damage is 15% bonus damage either way

Ultimately you can have all of the OS tuning once you clear the entire two pages of Arena,
Don't pay too much attention to them

That's silly, stop being silly. I don't think you have fully considered what goes into damage.

Yes, it turns 25 damage per shot into 28, but the final DPS factoring fire rate is what you need to consider, not the single shot.

Yes, something like the chaingun does 25 damage per shot, but it shoots 60 times in the time the Zimmerman shoots twice.

15% of 200 is always gonna be 30, wether it's on a weapon that deals 25 damage per shot, but fires 8 rounds a second is the same as it is on a weapon that deals 200 damage per shot but can only fire once per second.

I mean true, by the end you have the amount of OS chips to unlock everything. But starting out, they aren't worth it.

25 to 28 is only a ~11% damage increase due to rounding errors, so he has a point. Unless the game works with real numbers under the hood weapons with higher firing rates will scale worse due to integer rounding errors.

I said rounding down, 15% would be 28.75 but there's no way in hell the game would round up for damage.
