Holy ♥♥♥♥ killing Ayre was sad. I have felt zero regret or sadness about killing anyone, but Ayre got to me. "Raven, I still believe...." Or when she kills you "Raven, you were the only one". Ayre was our soul mate and we kill her in the bad ending. Plus I am confused because despite burning the coral, I still see it in the planet surface in the cutscene.

Walter cared about you more than Ayre IMO. Ayre would rather try to kill you than do what needs to be done about the coral, even after learning how dangerous it was to humanity.

Ayre is the only person in the entire game who cares about you. When you die she feels legitimate sadness.

Ayre, at best, cares about you like a pet. You're inconsequential to her, and she feels entitled to you. Just like Rusty she will try to cut you down with indignation when you don't align with her goals (which, I'd be remiss not to repeat, is to basically consume the galaxy).

There are only three characters in the game that will fight you (in self defense, or because of being mind controlled) while still genuinely caring about you:

Walter (literally stops himself from killing you when he could and tells you he wants you to be happy)
Carla (And Chatty kinda) (keeps trying to tell you lessons about how you should keep smiling, etc. as you're murdering them)
Michigan (bro literally lists off your achievements and how much he respects you as you're murdering him)

Everyone else than these three, as soon as you become an obstacle, completely disown you.

Rusty (you're a bit too strong, time to die)
Ayre (why didn't you side with me!? You have to die!)
