The one think I know is you need to have low damage. I think its around less than 5500.
I'm struggling with the mining ship mission, even when completed with very low damage I only get A rank, there is no battle log, no bonus for small mechs destroyed and the only thing I can think of is ammo used.
Pretty dumb for them not to list what the requirements are.
Edit: Something I would like to add after remembering. There is a mission where you get a ton of money by blowing up helicopters and fuel tanks. Doing this made me get an A every time. I decided to just rush the objective instead and got an S first try. This is when I realized speed is more important than anything in most missions.
Example: "Investigate BAWS Aresenal No. 2"... I've beaten this level insanely quickly, with sub 12k repair costs and sub 12k ammo costs. I've re-built my AC, and beaten it slightly slower - without taking damage, but having sub 15k ammo costs. I look it up online, and someone has a screenshot where they S-Ranked it with ~38k in total repair and ammo costs.
I wish they made the requirements more transparent...
-No retries
-Hurry! (Time spent is apparently the primary factor)
-Avoid Damage
-Conserve ammo (minor effect)
A little surprising that kill count isn't factored in, since this system feels a lot like Ace Combat's rankings.
That link sums it up perfectly -
"It doesn’t give you any feedback on your time and doesn’t show the exact requirements anywhere. It also applies ranks very inconsistently from one mission to the next."
"I often got S Ranks with vastly lower payout (e.g. 120k got me S-Rank but 180k would get me A-Rank), but just being faster or doing optional objectives and killing all enemies."
"[Combat Log] enemies aren’t always mandatory for S-Ranks but in some missions you will never the S unless you defeat them."
"Each mission is a case of trial and error."
---
So just waste your time running the same missions over and over again for hours, with zero feedback on how to improve from an A to an S... Got it!
You can get bodied the entire mission, as long as you do it quickly. You'll easily get most of your S ranks this way.
Play aggressive.
speed. lots of speed.
take zero/minimal damage if possible, iirc they're the highest weighted factors. Getting fragged, s-rank run is over. might still A rank it, but yea.
so pick the lightest loadout you can go for maximeme boost and still fight boss if applicable, and hit the objective only, avoid all the riff raff npc mass production mechas and non essential targets.
