Hate to ruin your fantasy, but mechs will never exist in real life. Tanks are better than mechs in every single way.
-tanks cant be knocked over
-tanks are stealthy, easier to conceal
-less emmision (this is a big deal for enemy sensors/detection systems.
- terrain, center of mass on tanks is low, creating stability, COM on mechs is too high causing instability. tanks can go up 60 degree slopes, mechs would fall over from being top heavy
-thinking that mechs can traverse using RCS thrust is absurd. That is not how rocket science works. It would need way too much fuel to perform those manuevers to even be possible, and it would be impossible to stabilize due to the center of thrust not going through center of mass.

F1erceE1ements has helped shift my perspective on this subject. While mechs seem impossible in earths gravity and atmosphere, Using them in space in low atmosphere/low gravity is plausible and worth investigating. It is important, however, to keep missile strike capability and the defense systems of such a mech in mind. It still would not solve the problem of stealth. Large machines create high emissions which are very detectable with military sensors. If you are interested more in military sensors used in modern warfare and how we can tactically work around them, I suggest starting with submarine warfare.
Counter point:
What is an exosuit, but a proto-mech?

This misunderstanding comes from the fact that mech is a science fictional idea and doesnt have a true definition. Technically, however, a mech is supposed to be massive, multi-storied. People would argue that the titans from titanfall arent mechs. Titans are possible because of their size. A 20 story mech, however, not so much.

yes exosuits already exists, they just arent mechs by definition.

Tanks are pretty useless now, drones rule the battlefield.

Mobile artillery with drone spotters.

Did you get stuck on the heli boss?

my guy, that's literally the easiest boss From Software has made since pinwheel. If you seriously get an ego from beating the bosses in this game you need to take a good look at yourself. This is the easiest from software game to come out in a decade.

You played less than an hour, wrote a negative review, then came here to counter an argument that nobody made. Easiest game sure thing, but too hard for you it seems. That's why you are here, arguing a non-point, so you can feel better about yourself. Seems the heli really affected you, my guy.

No, it probably wouldnt, at least not in its current form. But the point is that they ALREADY do exist. This is just the first generation. The prototype, the proof of concept. What could this be in 100 years? Or in 300? Or hell, 1000? Seeing as I am not sure exactly when AC is set I would have to assume it is the FAR future, as there are multiple planets populated by humans. Who knows what the tech will develop into? If we can master advanced materials, and super conducting ones, there are very likely going to be techs that will enable this type of mecha. Or at the very least a more Mechwarrior style of walking tank.

No, The point is THEY DO NOT EXIST YET. That thing is a proof of concept. Thats like saying Faster-Than-Light Drives exist just because DARPA recently created a warp bubble.

Whats next, are we gonna claim spacecars exist because we shot one into orbit with a rocket?
You do realise that every thing starts with a prototype and proof of concept?

And its closer to what the ACs are than an orbiting tesla is to a space car.

And no its not the same as saying that warp drives exist because darpa made a warp bubble. If they had made a warp bubble on a vehicle that could USE it as a means of propulsion, then yes, even if that means of propulsion wasnt very effective.

Sir.. You just handed me a paper plate that has,
"Degree in Science and Stuff
---School"
Written in crayon on it... I don't know how official these accreditation's really are. Now please shut the bathroom door and leave me alone.

You would think that someone with accredited degrees and who claims to be a probably tenured professor doing annual classes on space physics would have more important things to do on his sunday morning than yell at a bunch of weebs on the internet for liking the wrong fantasy.

It's almost like he's

you caught me. I'm actually just a 28 year old trust fund kid. Never worked a day in my life. I have everything I want, nice house, car, and computer. I pretend to be smart and understand rocket science because I play kerbal space program.

or i got covid and have nothing better to do, I am who I say I am.

yep which was my main point two pages ago. If tanks are basically obsolete on the modern battlefield, how would mechs do?

They will always exist in my dreams, you can't take that away from me.

Then one day you wake up to FBI agents and a syringe. " It's time to no longer weeb my son. " and you wake up with a scar on your forehead and hate pokemon.

I am kind of a weeb, but thinking giant robots are weeb domain is an L take. I played with robot toys, Bionicles and watched Transformers long before I even knew what Anime was. Japan might have the coolest mechs and robots though. Gundams are baller.

Your mental gymnastics are hilarious. Its a big gun they can drive forwards and backwards. Its a car with no wheels. Keep bumping my post though!

I loved bionicles and transformers, but i agree. Its just a toy for little boys. grow up.

Lets play third option - you're a jobless neckbeard locked in the basement who's parents didn't love him enough so he spreads his misery on the internet in the form of attacking people over what they enjoy to do for no provocation or reason other than to create misery by intruding into their fantasy and yelling at them on the internet over videogames.

If you had an IQ over 60, you'd know that sitting on steam forums being salty about the videogames people play isn't the best choice of your time.

They are a suit that provide mechanical advantage no?
Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 would have a bone to pick with your definition on mechs... (that might seem random but that show inspired me to design an exosuit as a teen. regret never patenting it because GI Joe basically "stole" it in that one movie :steamsalty:)

At first I found it odd you ignored the power issue, since the power issue is what made me scrap my design, but then I remembered your name. Still has a power issue though because no one wants a Nuclear reactor walking lol

We've known they were stupid impractical from the moment we saw Tetsujin-28 on small screens, but they're just so freaking cool as a concept it's hard to let go.

Giant Mechs are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome, that is reason enough for someone to make one. Maybe one day humanity will get its ♥♥♥♥ together, and we just decide to fight with giant mechs instead of tanks because.
