This misunderstanding comes from the fact that mech is a science fictional idea and doesnt have a true definition. Technically, however, a mech is supposed to be massive, multi-storied. People would argue that the titans from titanfall arent mechs. Titans are possible because of their size. A 20 story mech, however, not so much.

No, it probably wouldnt, at least not in its current form. But the point is that they ALREADY do exist. This is just the first generation. The prototype, the proof of concept. What could this be in 100 years? Or in 300? Or hell, 1000? Seeing as I am not sure exactly when AC is set I would have to assume it is the FAR future, as there are multiple planets populated by humans. Who knows what the tech will develop into? If we can master advanced materials, and super conducting ones, there are very likely going to be techs that will enable this type of mecha. Or at the very least a more Mechwarrior style of walking tank.

And no its not the same as saying that warp drives exist because darpa made a warp bubble. If they had made a warp bubble on a vehicle that could USE it as a means of propulsion, then yes, even if that means of propulsion wasnt very effective.
