seriously everyone: STOP using keyboards for action games

AC6 (and many other games) supports simultaneous use of mouse and analog sticks. use it.

the layout of your keyboard is designed to type text. its basically nothing more than a typewriter from over 100 years ago.
using wasd you only have 8 directions, one speed and everytime you press another button you compromise your movement.
its totally unfit for 3D action games.

even with a gamepad in your left hand and a mouse with at least 5 buttons in your right you will get much better results and have more fun in the long run.

I strongly suggest using a keypad with an analog stick (like an azeron cyborg) with your mouse. its 2023 for ****s sake. Its so sad the gaming industry still hasnt adjusted to PC gamers needs and is still selling expensive "gaming keyboards" with binary inputs to us.. this is unacceptable imho.

so if youre asking yourself; "should I use analog sticks or a mouse for AC6?" -use BOTH :)

as suggested by SteelaiRizel, here is a pic of my setup, just as an example

yea i been wondering for a couple years how one of those keypads worked. i been having a heck of time getting used to the controls in this game.

With mouse and keyboard, my aim is amazing and I only use hard lock for melee stuff and occasionally missile spam. The issue is my mech control, because WASD restricts how many actions I can take at once even though my mech can do nearly everything at once.

With gamepad, I have much more intimate and comfortable control over my mech but i find myself heavily relying on hard-lock to keep more shifty enemies from getting away from me. It's a frustrating experience, so I've been wondering how I get around this.

After reading your post I said F it and bought a Razer Tartarus. The Azeron looks like way too much for me; maybe once I get used to this thing. Anyway yea it sure is nice to be able to charge both back units, dodge, repair, scan and move all at the same time with one hand while perfectly aiming, jumping and boosting with the other.

I awarded your post, thanks.

There are less expensive alternatives, though I admit, still far too few

you can get a razer tartarus for 60-70 dollars new for example. A quick search brought up some used ones for like 30-40. theres also some nunchuck-style controllers which are pretty inexpensive.

Slightly more than $300 dollars as those are VKB Gladiator NXT EVOs with the premium "Space" grips.
A nice Midrange setup for a $330 HOTAS / HOSAS.

What I love about VKB is that they build everything with adjustability in mind and thus you even can easily transform a left-hand stick into a throttle with an 30 dollar upgrade kit.

Tons of other stuff avaible from them directly and tons of option for your own mods as well. Good build quality too, despite plastic as the are using ABS and glass-fiber-reinforced PA plastic. That's the kind that basically lasts forever.

Though they have pricier models with metal constructions too.

But to be honest, without ever having used this one … it's hard to see the appeal of it.
32 Buttons and one analog thumb stick is nice and all.

Even my ancient CH Products Pro Throttle has 3-axis and 24 Buttons, 176 programmable buttons via mode changes. So if I would just need a convienent place to rest my hand and access a lot of buttons … 24 from the throttle and like 18 from my mouse seem more than enough for basically everything.

Same for a setup with left-hand gladiator grip. Plenty of buttons and no need for a thumbstick even as you get a full stick with a lot more control and you pay even less dollars for it.

It is quite weird looking i admit. Kinda looks like you end up holding hands with your device lol

The vkb stuff looks awesome and is admittedly much more immersive for sims.. if I had space on my desk I would seriously consider this. Especially the double gladiators look really badass.
Ultimately it comes down to preference.
What I love about the azeron stuff is also massive adjustability; you can adjust everything to match the length of your fingers, your preferred grip, position of the thumb stick etc. And as an accustomed gamepad user this thing felt just right from the start. Also I like the weird looks 😁

And I would love to see a more diverse selection of gaming controllers.. everything is so streamlined.. I had a blast playing with wiimote and wii-U controllers for example, but the concepts seem to have died out. Sure you get gyro and touchpad on controllers, but that's not the same...

Keyboards are amazing bro, that's why we still use them a hundred years later.
