Any tips to S the Dam Complex?

I have a S rank on this mission but I have no idea why. I was only farming for cash.

Is it completion time? I definitely spent more money on ammo, so I assume conserving ammo isn't part of the ranking system. I also defeated the enemy AC that appears midway so maybe that impacts rankings?

It is based on time. I think using repair kits/taking too much damage will invalidate an S rank too, but time is absolutely a deciding factor.

Nope. Used 1 repair and had much more costs. YOU NEED TO KILL ENEMY AC.

Confirmed you need to kill the enemy AC. Got S, thanks for pointing it out.

Time is a definite factor.

I just did this and got an A-rank with 8k damage taken and I killed the AC.

It's most likely a mix of Time Spent/Total Enemies Killed/Objectives/sub-objectives accomplished.

edit; my ammunition costs are way above yours though, so perhaps accuracy/ammo used takes a part too.

I've S ranked most missions by now. No using repair kits, fast as possible kill time and pick builds that are nimble so you don't lose much HP for repair costs.

Honestly I just use high stagger guns and plasma sword things to death with a froggy/speed build and I've S ranked almost every mission except for the first.

Are there parts hidden behind S ranks or is it just for show?

Those are generic requirements. For this Dam Complex you need to kill the enemy AC. Even doing perfectly in this mission, if you don't kill Index you get A max.

Go really fast, take very little damage and use very little ammo. The ammo part was getting me before I realized the cost deducted from ammunition use counted against me. The first part is the problem because you have to kill the MTs before it will let you move on.

Time is a factor, can confirm. S ranked. I beat that AC. 30k ammo expenses and 4.4k repairs.

Doesn't look like expenses and repairs mattered that much, if at all.

So probably time + sub-objectives for S-ranks.

I can confirm that optional objectives can contribute to rank. In the destroying helicopters mission in chapter 1, you can SPEED through the main objective, ignoring all enemies, only using swords, and still only get A-rank. But when I went with shotguns and defeated all the enemies, which took longer and made me take more damage, I got S-rank.

It depends, though, and it's kinda frustrating—there's trial and error trying to see which missions value kills and which don't. The first mission where allies accompany you, you don't need to do the combat log fight to get S-rank.

It's really tough to get S ranks in this one. Probably the harshest ranking system in the series thus far.

the fact you need to defeat the optional carriers is intresting

the repair costs seem to be very lenient, i used 2 repair kits and still got S (even upgraded ones if that makes a difference)
