How do you beat the first boss?

I do not quite understand quite yet, what the game expects me to do. I just get smothered with himing missilesa I don't seem to be able to dodge. Some hints would be nice.

Edit: Easy enough after getting used to the controls - however to get a full grip on it it took me 2-3 missions give or take. I was was flailing around quite a bit beforehand.

Boost up to the boss and use your sword.

stay under him and fly up and slap him with sword

You reduce it's HP to 0.

Make sure your HP stays above 0.

Use your sword btw.

Listen for the beeps that means you need to doge the big 3k+ hit. You can keep him hard locked and just stay below or above him. If you are close you can just blade his face.

Don't get hit(too much). Hit it till it dies.

Just melee it. Not intuitive at all but essentially dodge and melee the cockpit.

remember to dodge boost the opposite way

Use the terrain as cover if you aren't close enough to get under him, also use the terrain as cover if your stagger gets too high as it will start to settle back down a bit. Use the overboost to close distance and the sideroll if he's attacking while you're closing with overboost.

As long as you can stay close to him (under or airborne to his sides) you can avoid most damage, a lot of people are saying to use the blade because if you're that close you might as well right, lol. It does do a lot of damage and push him way closer to stagger, but ultimately beating him is just a matter of keep close distance but not directly in front of him where he can hit you with everything.

Can you actually access the tutorials prior to beating him or only after? Right now I can't quit the mission and I don't feel equipped to deal with him right now. I just don't have the energy to stay in the air and trying to stay close to him just kills me. Most of my melee attacks miss. I just don't get it.

you're in the tutorial.
the level that you go through to get to him teaches you everything you need to know to beat him.
basically assault boost under him, shoot to build stagger, when he moves follow with assault boost, when he is staggered hit with sword, repeat.

I agree it's very stupid you get all the tutorials after completing several missions and multiple bosses.

Still, once you know to hit this guy with the sword he's not that bad.

Also, when you get to the giant mobile artillery tank, two tips:

Shoot it in the ass.

And if you can, get airborne and shoot it from above. It can't do much to you if you're up there. You can also land on top of it and unleash hell.

It's the first boss. Don't worry about getting good, just try not to be bad.

it's not because those trainings don't teach you anything you would need to know to beat this fight.
you don't need a training on quad legs or tank legs when you haven't unlocked them yet, and you don't need to know how to use charge weapons you don't have.

True enough but you don't even get the basic tutorials before the first boss.

Ah, got him. Used the wrong boost. Only used A and X instead of the left thumbstick boost which I kinda overlooked thus never got close enough. I thought I was missing something, that's why I wanted to get to the tutorials first.
