Balteus is ridiculous Edit Balteus is alright, not the hardest
EDIT: Due to the thread being necro'd yesterday on 9/14/23, I just want to say I already got over the boss fight and it got easier every time i played through the game. Its a good fight but it is a bit of a ♥♥♥♥ move to have it right at the end of chapter 1, though I should have expected it since it was mentioned in videos of pre release gameplay. Youre starting options are somewhat limited but you do get weapons and parts that help you keep up and do enough damage on your first playthough.

Ive already beat the game 3 times for all of the endings and just have S-Rank to do now. I got gud and the game is 10/10, i still feel like the patch for players who had a much worse time than me is an okay thing but they should have kept the option to beat them in their original condition in a hardcore mode instead of just making a blanket patch. Thank you fo rboth experiences Fromsoft and a masterpiece game. And for humbling me a good bit.

======================================================================

This boss fight is painfully hard. Why does Balteus have to be so ridiculously over powered for a chapter 1 boss? Is there really a good reason to make him that one kid of the playground who has to keeps making up new rules and giving him self new abilities just so he cant lose? Usually you can at least get to the late game before it gets toe stubbing eye irritatingly painful in terms of difficulty in AC, and thats mostly in the Arena... AC2s last boss wasnt this hard.

Theres a problem with difficulty when picking up dog droppings and mowing the yard become more interesting and fulfilling tasks to do than playing the game. I didnt learn anything from this, and what ever I feel afterward is not going to feel rewarding. I just want this to be over so I can do something else in the game other than bash my head against a Balteus shaped fist.

The thing is I keep getting SO close, less than a THIRD of the boss' health left, and then something trips me up and makes me start all the way over. Im not having fun any more, its just painful.

It's a reminder to go back and replay the missions. Build some funds and buy new gear. Test out different play styles and see what works against different enemies. Each have their own weaknesses, some weapons work better than others in certain scenarios, as do AC builds.

I found success using my sword and the energy bubble gun to demolish his shield and then shoulder rockets with high impact to stagger!

Youre missing the point, I almost beat this boss a few times out of the dozens of tries i put in since last night. I figured out the pulse weapons shtick to cancel the shields, I know how to dodge pretty much all of the attacks separately. Im saying this fight shouldnt be so hard that it makes me want to ask for a refund and forsake the rest of the game.

I get that this game wants to encourage all kinds of different builds in a single play through. But I dont care for tetrapods or tank builds, they are not my style. Essentially you are being restricted to a handful of configurations for your core for specific situations or you are going to eat dirt. It just makes me want to H+ the playthrough, but the problem is *You are already augmented* and i doubt thats even athing anymore (because god forbid the player actually having fun apperantly)

It would be fine if this was later in the game and I already had money and parts to mess around with. This just feels like CBT this early. I didnt have any issues making it this far and I doubt most of the rest of the game is this BS.

Guys who got stuck with the tutorial boss say the same thing. I suppose when a gamer gets bumped into a wall exceeding own skill two mentalities exist: 'why am I doing this' and 'I can do this all day'.

I got fairly lucky in my build, I'm running a 9 ball clone from earlier games. And OFC I had to pick up the pulse gun. That gun shreds his shield.

That is only the beginning. It only gets tougher from there.

Bubbles and plasma can help alot. I found this to be an endurance boss, in that I ran out of ammo in both of my main weapons and was reduced to missiles and fists before it was over. If you're having trouble, might need to try sticking purely to the mid-range or hanging back and chaining dodges as much as possible to avoid as many missiles as you can.

i had no issues beating it; i used a handgun, sword, and two shoulder plasma launchers - stick close to medium range and melee whenever you get an opening, if you let it get long range you're likely going to die

Double Shotgun, Double Shoulder Missiles = GGEZ

Im going to head back to the drawing board, the GL and bazooka combo work good after the pulse gun gets and pulse sabres get the shields damaged. I didnt want to have to try it but im going with tank legs after i get some credits, i keep dying just at the beggining of phase two or half way through phase two.
Pizzaman Aug 25, 2023 @ 7:13pm
I personally won’t recommend tank legs, they were too slow for my liking and ended up making me take more damage.

I went with regular biped legs.

I think the thing that really tipped this fight in my favor was, no joke, the "Boost Kick" OS tuning upgrade (in addition to pulse weapons)

EDIT: Also I was using quad legs I don't know if that is important

Oh yes, this!

I turned my camera sensitivity up for the battle (I’m on controller too so default camera was kinda sluggish)

You should already have access to the chip that grants manual aim. You get the funds for that in the Arena battles.
