Wait so exploring every mission there is chest and logs???
I am wondering: How DO you get S-Rank?
Do you just have to speedrun the mission or are there other factors, apart from no deaths?
That mission in particular also makes me wish we had a number for missing combat logs in the replay menu because I've done it a bunch of times finding a new enemy with a log each time just to come back to the menu and still have it listed as 'pending'.
I cant get higher than a B on anything
especially the one that pays more by elimination
I find using a relatively lightweight mech with at least one strong, lock-on missile launcher to quickly and easily dispatch groups of weaker enemies saves a lot of ammunition money in the long run.
Bear in mind you earn money for killing things when playing through again, and it feels like even if you take a bit longer to clear the mission, the extra cash you earn clearing things out is taken into account for the S rank. It feels something like; as long as you're relatively quick and don't spend more than 15% of your total earnings on repairs and ammo, you get an S rank.
At least that's how I got an S rank on Wallclimber, because I messed up and almost got clapped by the boss but having killed everything else on the way there, I'd earned a lot more credits than zooming past everything and I think it took that into account.
Could also just be a kill quota you have to meet. It's nebulous, really. Just murder everything in sight and be quick about it while taking low damage.
This is pretty close. You will need to beat base, ng+, and ng++ to have all missions. I didn't worry at all about starting to s rank until I'd completed everything else.
Also to confirm what others have said. There are no extra rewards for s rank outside of an emblem, achievement, and bragging rights to your friends.
You're definitely right about a somewhat light build. My move speed on my go to s rank build floats around 350. Makes it really easy especially in later more difficult and some of the ng+/++ missions to avoid damage. Hands down the most effective so far for bosses and ACs is using dual Zimmerman shotguns with a pulse blade on my shoulder and missles or laser drone on the other shoulder. For clearing trash on some missions I'll use a combination of laser pistol and shotgun and swap fcs to match my weapon choices.
I'm working on s ranking chapter 3 and can say the requirements are definitely nebulous. It's very important to pay attention to mission objectives. S rank requires you complete the mission from start to finish with no death/load from checkpoint. Time to complete and anything affecting final pay are always calculated for rank. I've noticed repair costs are less important and even more so when the mission includes a boss or AC that has to be taken down. (I had 1 repair kit remaining on the intro mission but cleared it quickly and still got S rank) If a mission does not pay out for extra enemies then don't worry about them at all, spending ammo on them will only hurt.
Missions with different objectives like defending the missles will require you have all 3 missiles survive. One where you defend a transport helicopter seems to require you keep the health of it above like 70% so it pays to be pro active and clear enemies ahead of time.
I think I've said what there is to know about s rank. That was a lot
