There is way to much Souls in our Armored Core game.
It's trying too hard to mimick the Souls genre without the appropriate skill mechanics required. It's just a bunch of rocket jumping and building hugging.

People who have been playing since AC1 the very first game what do you honestly think about this game? I'm having a hard time liking it I just wanted to play Armored Core not Armored Souls.

The most bizarre thing is it's missing a lot of content from AC in general and appears to be dumbed down yet they made the mechanics more harsh overall. Like why are weapons locked to left or right? There's a bunch of little things that make you go why???

Frankly the games a bit boring too. Stories a bit garbage as well. It's just literally Dark Souls with mechs. Even down to the annoying random

All From Software knows how to make are re-skinned Souls games. They've been doing it for over a decade now. Can't fully blame them though, it's all their loony bin fanbase demands from them.

Which is fair enough when you consider that Demon's Souls came out in 2009 and the Armoured Core series had its first outing in 1997 - the sheer amount of time traveling the devs have done gives them a pass at that point.

Think that went over your head what you said and what he said are both true. Neither statement is false and neither statement cancels the other.

It's just not Armored Core anyway you slice it. Armored Core starts out fighting a lot of simple enemies and freaking tanks and helicopters. The AC's were always a major focus of the game and there interactions. Which is where the Arena always came in as well.

This is like playing Dark Souls with the random enemy types, over powered long distance BS that keeps you dodging nonstop, not to say that wasn't in the main game. It's definitely trying to be SOULS likely because anyone who worked on AC is mostly gone I don't know who directed this direction for the AC series but it's just bad. If i wanted to play a Souls game I would pick up Souls.

This is a game where you sit back relax maybe controller in hand crack a beer and just beat the ♥♥♥♥ out of mechs.

This damn game wants you to work to play. I've played every Souls game and the prior series before Souls - Kings Field. This Armored Core is 100% trying to merge with those games.

Git gud casual

There are new players scattered across the discussions who, the moment they realise the melee exists at all, were able to overcome the problems that other people are 'having'.

It's not even git gud casual at this point, it's just basic pattern recognition and muscle memory issues. We're miles below 'git gud casual' and that's scary.

except it's not any kind of new pattern at all for the difficulty curve, not in the slightest.
The time you're given for experimenting with the controls, damage, movement physics...... even the damage the enemy can do to you, it's on par with almost every game in the series - and this one gives you field repairs and checkpoints?

The idea that it's not like any of the others is a horrifying statement when so much of it is so reminiscent of the previous titles.

Every single title from the first till now has had multiple encounters that would mess you up hard until you learned how to fight them, without exception - unless you solely played the arena and cheesed it, never touching the other parts.

The bits between the boss fights are very enjoyable. The bosses are trying too hard to be a souls game to appeal to their new fanboys.
This sums it up.

Tutorial boss sparked a bit of concern for me. I downed in on third try, but it felt entirely too difficult for an AC game that early.
Strider was fun. The scale and boss fight were great.
Juggernaut is annoying AF. If you don't know the cheese strats, it's not a fun fight (then again, cheese strats suck the fun out of the fight, too)
Balteus makes Margit from ER look like trash mob.

This isn't Armored Core. This is Mecha Souls. If they had properly conveyed this, I'm not sure I would have bought it.

It doesn't feel that much like the AC I remember back from the PS1 and PS2 days. Maybe I'm just old, but that was a bit disappointing to me.

I wish it felt a bit more like OG AC, those games were amazing.

The garage and shop though I am liking very much so far, I love to see this again.

I haven't played much yet so kind of ignore me!

The most reminiscent of the pacing should be Last Raven probably, but except maybe for 4A it's not particularly different.

I’ve been playing since armored core 2 and last raven. Though I have no idea what you guys are talking about with this game feeling like dark souls.

in classic armored core games, "bosses" are very often "true rivals" who have similar AP amount and what not, so the fight is more about being race of who dies first, where its almost impossible to do "no damage" runs. Even if boss is freaking hard like Nineball Seraph or Zinaida, it still more or less follows this idea.

Meanwhile "souls like boss fights" (though it appeared in action and action-rpg games years and years before) is when boss has much more health than player, and boss attacks deal much more damage than player deal to boss, so gameplay ends up being "keep evading attacks while biting very few damage from boss", which is different approach alltogether and is closer to something like devil may cry or castlevania. And personally, after playing souls i was somewhat tired of such approach, and preferred classic Armored Core one instead.

counterpoint: giant MTs and arms forts.

The older games were no stranger to bosses that were giant machines with lots of health that shoot you with a billion missiles or whatever. It wasn't all just AC fights.

Which is why i said "often" and not "all the time".

It's OK to have both approaches represented, perhaps.

EDIT:

To further clarify my point. I think the approach I described in 2nd paragraph is much more mainstream/popular/average, while "bosses that are not typical bosses" that are bread and butter of classic AC games felt more unique to me. Imho.

Im loving the game, and unlike a lot of others it seems... its not souls. Its nothng like souls, and thats coming from someone with hundreds t thousands of hours betwen pc, and consoles for all 3 souls games, plus bloodborne, elden ring, and sekiro. Heck, even demons soul. Souls are slow, and methodical. Armored cor you have to always move, take in everything, and react accordingly.

if it wasn t like this , the fromsloppers would cry here and the reviews would be 6/10 like all AC games. AC is just boring , they added some SOULS into it to make it less boring.
Still boring

Yep refunding. Didn't come for Dark Souls game for Armored core. I came for Armored Core. RIP Armored Core. I'll go back to Mechwarrior then. And also if anyone thinks this game is going to win GotY now, it won't. Not when you have BG3 contenting and I know THAT game is going to win cause of its controversy and it selling loads more than this. And you also have starfield too. Screw you dark soul fanbois.
