Mouse and Keyboard or Controller?
This is my first Armored Core game and I primarily play mouse and keyboard. The only games that I use controller for are souls like games that aren't shooters. So basically DS3, Elden Ring, Code Vein, etc...

The gameplay show multiple weapons being used at once, so I was wondering how that would work on mouse and keyboard. Would controller just be more viable in general?

Edit: It's crazy how many viewpoints there are about this topic. Looks like I'll give KB+M a shot, then switch to controller if I have issues. My mouse has two extra buttons, so assuming that right click is also used to fire I should be fine.

The OG players are gonna likely say controller, but we just don't know how M&K will feel. I'd say keep controller handy and try M&K if you want or stick to how it has been played throughout with controller.

Got it, thanks!

Out of curiosity, is this the first computer Armored Core game? I know that the franchise itself is old, but I don't know when the previous games actually came out.

As someone who has had to use a controller not always by choice for well over a decade now, I never thought about how few buttons keyboard users can actually press while moving without a custom mouse. Lowkey mind blown.

Yeah, I played controller my entire life until about 4 years ago. Mouse and Keyboard feel so much easier to use, and it's surprisingly intuitive. I've never played a game like this on computer though. This is an interesting mix, because it has a lot of mechanics that make me want to use controller, but is also a shooter.

By default, shoulder weapons are bound to Q and E, which works well for fire and forget weapons like missiles, but not that well for sustained or charged weapons. If your mouse has additional buttons that are easy to use, I would expect it to be easier to bind the shoulder weapons to those buttons.

This is the first AC game for PC, so it will be the first time that people get to play it with mouse and keyboard. People who have already tried to play it with mouse and keyboard have stated that it worked well.

Okay cool, I have two buttons on the side of my mouse, so I can try that if Q/E doesn't work well. Glad to hear that it's not going to be an issue.

In my experience, there are no games that play bad on keyboard and mouse, there are only bad default control schemes.

EDIT: And developers who refrain from adding cutomizable kb+m controls.

Only 'advantage' that controller may really have is the analog triggers, if they have kept 'second stage' quick boosting in the game. Which in itself isn't exactly much of game changer. It was just method to have bigger and more efficient quick boost.

Third person melee games kind of suck on a mouse compared to a controller. There is just no benefit to the accuracy and turn speed and the reduced directional movement and speed precision is usually a big downside.

This game is mixed range though so it should benefit nicely from mouse depending on your kit.

You gotta give me some examples of that cuz imo they actually don't as a lot them also give you high mobility and high mobility is better with a mouse. I do a lot of ♥♥♥♥ with kb+m that I simply can't do with a gamepad while playing Spider-Man. Wall running and web slinging during fights is waaay more comfortable and precise. Also in God of War, getting headshots with Leaviathan axe is so much easier with a mouse. They ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up lock-on but you can simply play without cuz you know, mouse.

Here's a insights video from a guy who actually have been playing. It covers KBM controls, ongoing debate and personal key binding et cetera.

KB+M is really only has an advantage on FPS and RTS games. Anything else is really just personal preference on which one is better. For example, FFXIV is unplayable for me with a KB+M but I can do most of the raid stuff easily with a controller.

I don't think there is anything stopping you from using either option on PC unless of course you were asking which one should you buy. KB+M = PC and Controller = PS5 version.

If so, then I'd pick the one that can run the game better and load quicker. If you have a laptop or a budget PC (or any pc with out a dedicated GPU) then the PS5/Controller option is going to be better.

Honestly, Im gonna try for Mouse and KB. The OG way to play is on controller, but the game has so many different functions in its control scheme, it seems better suited to a keyboard.
