FLAME ON!
does the single player rely on servers as well?
AC4 and AC4A are leagues better imo. I would've said you could skip AC5 and ACVD even back when they were still up, so I'm pretty biased. But even if you're into what they offer(ed), it's pretty safe to assume you will be getting a subpar experience from those games without the servers running.
From MIGHT have the problem of having signed a long-term license with a publisher, but that's purely hypothetical.
As far as US publishers go... Agetec seems to just be dead. Not bought up buy anyone else, just... turned off the lights one evening and never came back to the office. If there's anyone around anymore to even argue about licensing rights, I'll be surprised.
Sega and Ubisoft aren't dead, but I find it hard to believe From would have signed a perpetual exclusive license in AD 2006, a dozen games into their star franchise. It wasn't their first rodeo, and they knew the brand's value.
And if they had been that foolish before, I would've expected Agetec to wind up with the trademark to the Armored Core title(thus blocking Sega and Ubisoft).
So I'm fairly confident there's no Harvest Moon/Song of Seasons rights clusterbomb going on. From just doesn't go back when they can go forward(and thus we will never see 3D Dot Game Hero ported to modern platforms).
Only example of something they own that was ported forward is Metal Wolf Chaos, and I
suspect that was Devolver's idea, not From's.
If it was easier to emulate, I think Verdict Day would be a pretty good game for people to get into. It actually has a decent single player
