That said, with SteamInput you can make anything work with anything if you're persistent enough, since you can remap anything you want.
As far as practicality goes, I doubt throttle and stick will be viable in an AC game. Twin flightsticks should be at least doable.
I don't claim it is a GOOD idea, just that it's one you can probably make work. At least long enough for the giggles and the street cred. Make sure you get some video of this.
...
You know what? I guess if you're really good with the twist axis on your stick, a throttle could control forward and back motion, while the stick controlled look up, down, left, and right, with twist moving side to side. (Or with the X axis moving side to side and twist looking left and right! I won't judge!)
It'll still be a hilariously bad idea, but definitely something worth seeing.
But remember, this isn't Mechwarrior. It's a fast third-person shooter.
I mean if its fast I can live with that >.> mostly i just want to feel like i'm in a cockpit, but in a good game >>>
Nah i tried that in another game but it doesn't seem to detect the X-56 I have sadly -.-But i havent looked into it beyond the once
There's also some interesting benefits to a HOTAS or HOSAS setup.
You wind up with a lot of buttons at your fingertips without removing your hands from the primary analog axes, meaning you don't have to choose between the button diamond or the right analog nipple.
Essentially, you have access to every button at once, without becoming a silly meme. Dual flight sticks is the true Legendary Armored Core Grip.
...
Somehow it always comes back to the Playstation Analog Joystick, doesn't it?
I mean I predominantly play M&Kb if i'm not using my HOTAS set up. so its never really an issue for me. I do like the subtleties of analog imputs of digital key presses but it's not so siginficant that I'd forgo my good ol' mouse and keyboard for one of the PS4 controllers on my desk >.>. Worst case scenario I'd just use the steam deck in controller mode but really I like my mouse and keyboard XD it's just a matter of knowing which one to set up for. Currently I'm hoping that Star Field also supports hotas as I primarily play space sims.
I've always abhorred the keyboard as a game controller, and don't consider it if I can avoid it. It is a blind spot in my thought process, I acknowledge.
I hope it will be different this time. I really do.
Not out of the box though so you have configure it yourself.
I bet it looks slick!
Bet someone will make a mod for custom inputs to make HOTAS more easier to setup.
