How come AC is suddenly popular?
I feel like these games have always been really niche and never heard much about them. But suddenly 6 is popular and everyone is talking about it. Is it due to Elden Ring success and the From Software name? Or did I underestimate the popularity of AC games over the years?

Is this going to be like Monster Hunter World? Where everyone kept saying monhun is like dark souls? All because no one has any other reference game to compare it to.
Armored core is the dark souls of mecha games.

Obviously. :undyne:

Short Answer: Because the same Lead Dev that made Elden Ring is also making AC6 AND its From Software, literally the best known Game Studio since they released their Souls Games.

Before they were pretty much niche in almost every regard and game release. TBH i kinda like that AC now gets the spotlight it, in my mind, deserves.

because the armored core audience finally get a new thing after a decade and they're excited about it

because the people who liked demon's souls and dark souls and bloodborne and sekiro and elden ring see "from soft" in the credits and they're excited about it

because there's kind of a deficit of interesting looking mech games on the market that aren't just "mechs as set dressing for entirely different mechanics" or "mechs to sell microtransactions" and people are excited about something that isn't either of those

because it looks interesting in general and despite what some people say having multiple trailers at big events is indeed marketing, and people were excited about them

oh right troll answers too, um, gimme a moment

because if they bring back armored core they might bring back king's field and people in the nursing homes are excited about it

I personally never played an armored core game and got excited to see a mech use a pile bunker back at the game awards. My friend was a big fan though and brought me into this rabbit hole of Armored Core games. I think it helps that From Soft has built a huge reputation and more people will try out a game from them because From makes good games.

Because the companies popular. That's why Activision and Bethesda can make garbage people lap up, once you reach a certain level of popularity how good your product actually is doesn't matter. (I think it will be good though)

Examples :

Activision with call of duty after PS2.
Rockstars : Well, the list is long but 4 and 5 amongst others.
God of War (last two games, last being 0/10 narrative before arrival).

Less of a huge problems :
Final Fantasy 11; 13-2; 13-3 ; 15 and 16.
Silent Hill homecoming.
Multiple Pokemon games.
Witcher 3.
Resident Evil 5; 6; 7; 8 (if you don't take third person option added a while after release).
Dragon Age 2 and 3.
Borderlands 3.
Fallout 4 and the most recent turd I forgot the title of (they kind of made it better from what I heard but I was in and out within an hour).

...and many more.
It's past 3am and I'm tired af so I'll stop at these few examples.

Unpopular take but one of the biggest reasons I'd say is following:
It's finally on platform you own.

Personally I played armored core demo on my cousins Playstation. Never owned one so couldn't play any of the armored core games. Until Armored core 4 when the series landed on the Xbox 360. Which point on I could enjoy the titles, but the series was still grounded to consoles only. Now it's relatively unrestricted for anyone to gain access to the game.

i dont care who doesnt like my game......... or why. im here to blow shist up. not everyone should be a raven. even if you like it i dont care. i get a new installment of mayhem after a ten year wait. "do you want to destroy order, destroy the world "

I've always felt the armored core games were really unique games and it sucks that they needed souls publicity to get more people into it. I bet the game will be one of the highest rated AC games too, even though it'll probably be the most casual

its just some mech deathmatch arena but you customize your mech from what it's firing to the size/build/camo
djcarey 21 AGO 2023 a las 22:46
it can get really addicting.. lol

Because of Elden Ring.. Its not because it is made by devs who makes souls-like games, its only because of Elden Ring!!!!! And rightfully so..

Thats not accurate. Elden Ring's lead developer was Hidetaka Miyazaki. AC 6 development was lead by Masaru Yamamoto. Miyazaki stated he was "extremely jealous" of the team that got to work on Armored Core in an interview with IGN.

I've always loved the hell out of the series, since i was a kid. but yeah, it was pretty niche. Souls lovers think it's gonna be robot dark souls, so they hopped on.
People like different kinds of games? Ridiculous you guys act like soulsborne nerds only stick to those titles and don't play anything else. Fromsoft's recent titles got popular in the first place because they're good games and we all wanted something different than cookie cutter AAA tripe. I'm excited to feel like a pilot violating geneva convention laws with a gigantic metal death machine. Crimes against humanity are especially fun when it's just lines of code and not actual predator drone strikes.

I know a lot of people that always wanted Armored Core but never owned playstations. This being the first non-exclusive one is a big factor as well I think. I know I always wanted them but never had a playstation growing up. Was a PC gamer household.
