Lock on or free aiming?
Wondering if i should get this on pc or ps5

Is there free aiming or is it like all lock on / target based? if its free aiming i may consider pc instead for the mouse aiming.

Both are legit to use, and have different purposes, from what I can tell from the coverage we got like ~3 weeks ago. Like, the accuracy of tracking and hard lock-on is determined by your AC's computer, my guess is some will prefer to not rely on that.

You can unlock manual aim as part of the OS system (I think AC4 was the only one that let you use manual aim mode for everything by default instead of making it a gimmick for specific weapon types?).

Just remember that manual aim can't cheat around effective range limits, and yes this is a "Parts quality throttles your turn/aim speeds" style series. Though as the first official PC port for the AC series, who knows if we get some jank super mouse aim, or people crying "Why can't I literally cheat with mouse aim!?"

Could be more useful on missions than PvP. PvP there are few sitting duck idiots. But manual aim might let you bring a short range type FCS while still being allowed to shoot things with a sniper rifle's full range by eyeballing it on a slow mission target.

Both.
The default is a soft lock.
You can turn-on hard lock.
And there is a manual aim module.

ACV is hybrid manual aim like 70% you are semi-manual aiming cause your semi-hard lock only works when you are finally firing your weapons which means AC6's manual aim will be 5th gen like where you have the reticle staying on screen and you just need to "JUST DO IT"

shoulder mounted rocket launcher were manually aimed in the older games, and they had a great damage to cost ratio

Early era Rocket launchers were my good friend, rewarding me for loving them whenever I was in a mission that needed a bio sensor but I was too stupid to have equipped one.

But you don't sound like some kind of build optimization genius by admitting that. I am more "This idiot that manages to sink with hover legs... killed Zinaida?!"

Why am I like this? In ninja gaiden remake. I brick walled for an hour on the tutorial 'guy on horseback', and thought Alma was a cool fight and was very surprised to start seeing her on 'hardest boss of all time' lists.

Manual Aiming module enables you to enter / out Manual Aiming mode, thus you still need to adapt for regular lock-on system. Likely you will have to stick with lock-on most of the time. To choose the platform, there must be bigger factors like pc port optimization and which multiplayer platform you root for since it doesn't support crossplay for now. And we don't know how exactly Manual Aiming OS does work.

So if you're unsure, might be better to wait til the release.

I am also very curious about this. Maybe my expectations are wrong (?), but I would like to play this as a shooter game where I can aim with mouse, same as in FPS games. I hope this game can deliver this, at least in some degree?

There is free aiming to a degree (you can move your FOV around and the weapon will soft lock into the enemy).
There is also a manual aiming mode, which will increase accuracy but currently no one knows how it works.

So no, this is not an FPS game. Don't think of Doom, think more of ZoE or Ace Combat.

I hope they will release a demo version of the game, it would be best to get a feeling on how it's going to play, sadly I have not played Ace Combat (and the other game, ZoE, I don't even know what that is, haha, sorry!), but I understand that you mean it's going to be more like flight combat games. Sounds interesting for sure!

About too late for a demo, but yeah, I'm just saying.

There's already a bunch of gameplay videos on Youtube, very detailed.

Other game is Zone of the Enders, another super fast-paced mecha action game:
