So you can dodge roll, sprint and block.
What do i do to avoid the vacuum attack by the first boss? The guy that spawns new small crabs.
The only "reliable" way i have found is to stay at a decent range away from it.
It doesn't seem to give a warning about the attack so you don't really have time to get away, just instant damage.

Game shows you red icon before this attack. It appears in the same place as a more noticable blue icon when he does jump attack.
So when you see this icon and you are not at point blank range, you just run away in direct line. If you are really close to him, basically touching him, you can dodge sideways and try to get behind his back. This will make his attack lose tracking capabilities and you will be able to get multiple free hits.
