The combat is also pretty fun, because there's so much you can do with it. For example, i'm going for a full balance damage build (two sinkers and a sinker+, and a hammer) so I can capsize the enemy much faster. And with the dispatch ability, the damage is absolutely BONKERS. There's also a lot of other things you can do combat-wise, and the skills on the skill tree especially caters to how you want to play the game.
Unlike other Soulslikes, there's an actual story here, and it's pretty good. So to summarize:
The main character Kril gets his shell taken by a loan shark because he hasn't been paying his taxes. So he goes to fort Slacktide to talk with the queen, and she tells him if he gets something nice to decorate the castle with, she'll extend the time for Kril to pay his taxes. So when Kril returns to Slacktide, with a pearl in claw, the fort has been laid to ruin by an infection; guards running amok, hostile enemies scurrying around, and the queen succumbs to the virus and you have to fight her. Once you kill the queen, you find the loan shark and the shark says that he's going to go sell the shell in New Carcinia, so Kril goes to New Carcinia to retrieve his shell. He finds that his shell was sold to a pawn shop owner named Prawnathan, and Prawnathan tells Kril that if he finds the treasure, he'll return the shell.
Also, the game uses the theme of a polluted ocean PERFECTLY; your shells are trash, your currency are microplastics, everyone uses trash as clothing/armor/weapons, and the vibrant environments are littered with trash.
That's it, really.
And BTW, if 95% of reviews are positive, that's a sign that the game is REALLY good, even if the reviews aren't helpful. Only 1 in 20 people who reviewed the game hated it.
