How hard is this game exactly?

I don't have the patience for games like Dark Souls in terms of difficulty. I don't mind challenging games, but I just can't git gud at games like DS because of the trial and error gameplay.

How does this game fair in comparison to DS?

The gameplay loop is very very similar to the DS series, but ACT is far easier. There's actually a bit of an inverse difficulty curve going on where the first few bosses take some practice, but pretty much every boss in the second half of the game takes one try, maybe two at most. Once you get through the first couple of bosses and get some upgrades it will be pretty smooth sailing.

my understanding is on the reccomended difficulty without assist on, it is a little easier than DS but you can adjust the difficulty with assist mopde and just the general difficulty at the beginning of the game

The game can be quite difficult on normal mode if you don't give yourself any cheats. I found the puffer fish guys the MOST frustrating so far, haven't beat the game yet, been having a hard time coming back to the game lol. but it is a lot of fun when everything works out.
