Roland and Inkertons realetionship

you know i kinda wonder whats Inkertons deal is, i mean why does he even work for Roland in first place. ok so when you fight Inkerton again in the unfathom a cutscene plays both Inkerton and Roland are trying to find they're way out Roland scolds Inkerton for being defeated by Chitan and then he says "I should have left you on the seabed where i found you. you lil". then Inkerton proceeds to turn around and blast Roland killing him.

Now about what Roland just said lets think about it for a bit, he says that he found Inkerton on the seabed so what does that mean ? did Roland somehow saved Inkerton and that's he works him or is it something else ?

So reading between the lines, my interpretation is that Inkerton was corrupted by the Gunk at a young age but was able to partially keep a hold on his sanity. Despite having some awareness, his driving motivation is simply to destroy. After being rescued by Roland, Inkerton played along for the mutual benefits: Roland gets a powerful enforcer, and Inkerton gets to kill people without having angry mobs after him. Once Roland is washed up (ha) and no longer serves any purpose, Inkerton has no qualms about killing him too.

Each had a use for the other (money, violence). On the sea bottom, Roland sadly lost his usefulness.

Konche: A poor squid born in lower crust... I knew his family back then. Good folks, I say. True lovers of history! Brought their children to my museum often. And then, for their lives to end in such a tragedy, like so much of history itself.

Kril: So what happened to Inkerton's family?

Konche: Oh, they died. I really thought that subtext was obvious, i say.

Kril: Yeah, but like... N-nevermind...

Konche: I couldn't tell you what happened to the boy after that. After all, he never visited my museum again! But at some point, he began showing up by Roland's side... They've been joined at the fin for quite some time now.

Konche: And he doesn't flinch when ordered to hurt those who used to be his neighbours.

Konche: I'd avoid another direct conflict with him if I were you, child. The blood runs cold in that squids veins, I say.
