How do I use the Skills tree

I have checked the controls and have pressed every button on my controller but i cant seem to claim a skill in the skill tree. Is this a bug? Can someone help me?

Also, this is my first souls-like game any suggestions on how to get better?

You have to progress to a certain area of the game to unlock the skill tree, where are you at right now?

I just beat the shrimp knight guy, so very early on still, ill complete more of the game and tell you if i fixed the problem.

I just beat Heikea the Intimidation Crab and still can’t use anything more than shelleportation

you can only learn skills at the moon snail

I'm interested to know how as I also cant. I can level up at the shell but cant put any of my 285 points into the skill tree (before the update all I could see in the tree was shelleportation , after the update I can see Skewer, Streamline and Parry but can't learn them or anything)

the moon snail is not the same as a moon snail shell, keep playing the game until you unlock shelleportation

You indeed need to use the Shelleportation and go back to the moon snail, talk to her and you can change your skills in the skill tree.
