That said, if you outright dislike the trappings of the genre, you might not enjoy it - it's a very pure and true soulslike, quite loyal to the formula of them in very many respects. You can soften all the rough edges until it's very gentle and easy - but it's still bonfires, iframe dodges, leveling vit and str with a currency you get from kills and drop when you die, etc.
If you, on the other hand, *want* to like soulslikes but have just found you can't quite handle the heat at the level they bring - this would be a good way to start enjoying them and gradually skill up from there. So it depends. The mere fact you're hanging around this forum, trying to talk yourself into it, hints to me you're in this camp.
I used to despise the genre - and had to find my own way in from easier beginnings with the help of a friend, and I was useless at them - but over time I've become better and better, and now I'm into challenge runs and an absolute genre diehard. So... who knows. Depends on you.
Read what the person said. There's no gatekeeping in what they said. The only gatekeeper here is you in EVERY post, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about the most asinine nonsense you can possibly think of.
Go. Out. Side.
