"Soulslike"
It almost means nothing. Is this game more than difficult encounters and "tough but fair" bosses? Any "dungeons" with secrets and intertwined routes? How are the level layouts?

it has bonfires, iframe dodges, charged attacks, parries, souls/runes, typical souls stats to level, souls style enemies and bosses (including some direct boss references to souls/elden ring moves), stakes of marika, hidden platforming for bonus items, etc.

it's very much a soulslike - but more in the vein of elden ring than dark souls, as far as level-design is concerned - twisty dungeons, yes, but dotted throughout a somewhat open world.

I hate souls likes and got it on Game Pass so it will be interesting to see if I like it...

You have your light attack, your charged heavy attack, your jump, your roll, and your parry. You rest, level up, and respawn at "bonfires". It has the grapple from Sekiro. It has a fairly open-world map, where you can meet bosses you're not meant to face until later (Elden Ring). Its "dungeons" contain secrets and interconnected routes opened up with shortcuts. It has your poison areas. Enemies and bosses can be staggered for crits. And of course, you have your "hub".

I've enjoyed it so far. That being said, it's thematically very different. If you played their game "going under", it has that kind of humor; commentary on capitalism, environmentalism, and the like.

Just saw a review that showed some platforming and the hookshot. How does this feel? Do you think it adds to exploration?

Definitely - it's basically a 1:1 with Sekiro's hookshot, if you're familiar. Makes moving around the levels very fun, kinetic, and vertical. The platforming generally feels very good, not cheap or gimmicky - clever designs, good reliable controls.
