Map function??
Now it may just be because I'm really early in and haven't found any sort of map item or anything yet, but does this game just not have any sort of functional map other than the location tab???

Not that I've seen a couple hours in. Not sure why we can't zoom around on the map like every other game.

Yeah having the same problem

I think it would be cool if they added it, but there is no traditional map function

you dont really need it, the way the areas are laid out, while not linear, is not too confusing to find a way forward, and the location option will always show you where you are and you can use that to orientate yourself in the right direction

I personally think its a good compromise between dark souls's "you have no map, ever" and a more regular map, the location tab is still useful i assure you

No map functionality. I think it's done purposefully to avoid spoilers/foster exploration. That said, even after finishing the game I do wish there were some kind of map marker system that would help with tracking down umami stuff
They should have added a map the second they decided to have a giant barren wasteland with items sprinkled in it. I hate the sands between.

It would have been quite helpful but, honestly, you'll get used to it very quickly. By the end, I knew the Sands In Between more or less from memory.

The map works. You just can't scroll around on it. I think they made this choice because the abyss is supposed to be difficult.

You're not the only one. In fact, the top guide for this game is the full map:

Oops necromancy but still relevant, it seems.

there already is, the Contact Lens (shows enemy healthbars from far away and through terrain; there's a purple icon in the corner if they have unclaimed crystals, and it shows the healthbar of breakable crystals as well, not just enemies)

On my third playthrough and I never knew, thanks for the tip!

It's honestly the most OP and broken stowaway in the game, and only takes up one slot too! The fact that it shows you all hiding enemies and crystals behind walls trivialises the game...
