Bouncing off Wooden crates or falling through them

just confused on the mechanic, in the "What was that sound?" sequence in boiler city, the first path of floating boxes to jump across I can clutch jump, the animation where Anton/Annie have their weapon held behind them while jumping, and ill bounce off the crates holding in the jump button (prob not necessary but a habit)
on the second path of crates if I do the same I will break the crate and fall right through it, ive tested it out on random crates and normally you bounce, are the crates in that section of Boiler City bugged?
