Can I create a player from zero?

Not yet, but it is possible to edit any existing player in the editor.

Player career mode would be cool where you take control of whatever team you created player signs for. Might add a nice story element to the game.

What did you have in mind for this yourself?

What about custom teams, with custom players, playing in custom tournaments?
Just like it was in the good old SensiSoccer

Honestly I want to add custom teams and be able to upload them into steam workshop to share.

There is custom knockout and league, but they lack custom teams as yet. I'll need to have a think. Maybe the ability to just create a team in the editor that can be enrolled in these tournaments too(?) .. I recall sensi had dozens to custom teams such as Real Cereal, Sensible XI etc etc

I've not expanded out of Europe.. yet. But there are some leagues such as US, Saudi Arabia, Japan etc that deserve some presence these days. Bigger job to add a continental tournament such as euro club cup (enrolling club teams from india, iran, israel etc).. or maybe I could have a fictional "world club cup" for those leagues and include euro clubs in that too.

You do remember fine! That was awesome! I mean the legendary "Sensible XI" or the "A is for Atlas" and so on... not to mention the "Turkey Tournament" or the "Booby League"...
Maybe you could create a whole entire set of custom teams, and you could add the option to move a custom team to a preset league (i.e. a newly created "Microprose XI" to be moved to Australian league).
