Is weirdly enjoyable even without a keyboard?

Bravo to the devs tbh, I thought it would be an absolute nightmare typing with a controller but turn-based + controller is actually really fun, and gives me time to think about letter length and plan long chains of attacks.

I'm currently lost as hell in the swamps and looking forward to the rest of the game woohoo!

Hey ChinchillaPoop appreciate that! I spent a fair bit of time getting the joypad controls somewhat workable, I will be adding better predictive detection to the virtual joypad for 1.036 to just add a bit of extra help also, which will have a list of commonly used words listed on the top of the virtual joypad that can be entered via hover + button.

Just a reminder Paulbbg steamdeck has a microphone :)

Sounds like a huge QoL improvement! One of the annoying things is like if I'm healing after a fight spamming Soothe 5 times is like hhhh. Something that keeps the last used word on a quickbutton would be very useful for repeated commands.

Fishing feels extraordinarily awkward on controller though, is pushing forward and backward on the analog stick supposed to do the same thing? They both just yank the bob out of the water and exit the screen for me.

Good call on fishing, I will take another look at that when I make these predictive text control changes for 1.036, I am hoping to get a Steamdeck shortly with the first $ from sales so I should be able to make some improvements there also.

Hey @paulbbg, when is the 1.036 patch coming with the bigger fonts option? Would love to play it on the Deck that way!

Also, is there a way to reduce volumetrics taxing the system even at the medium preset? I can keep a solid 40 FPS on the Deck but it drops to the low 30s as soon as I’m close to a lamp and there’s fog surrounding it.

Awesome game!

bigger font should be in 1.035, which will go into testing on the public side branch pretty shortly, I imagine a couple of days at this point, just waiting on a few Spanish translations to be sorted then it should be good to go up. I will make a note of that, its likely the particle overdraw that kills it, I think dropping the quality settings in options and reloading/revisiting the same area should remove a lot of those sorts of effects, but if the lanterns are particularly bad I can take a look at those specifically.

Ive added a bit more aggressive culling on those lantern fogs, so they will be culled on medium and low quality presets for 1.035, that should help somewhat as there is a bit of a gulf between low and medium as far as quality right now. I would be curious to know how many fps you get from the draw distance settings on Steamdeck if you have any time to tinker...

I can certainly have a look and report back, thanks for investigating it. Standing by for the patch!

Okay this is now live on the main branch.

Hooray! Another thing I've noticed is the speed the cursor moves over the virtual keyboard on controller mode is directly tied to framerate. At 90fps it's lightning fast and 60fps makes is slower. It's absolute garbage at 30fps. It also makes unstable framerates (especially during fights or when moving through rooms with a lot of mobs) extremely frustrating because fluctuating framerate means your cursor speeds up and slows down randomly, making you misclick.

Not sure if there's anything that can be done to fix this?

I think so, I will take a look for 1.036, I will be also adding a new predictive system for joypads in that update, so should improve usability a lot.

Edit: Confirmed/reproduced that it is slowing down on FPS drops, will sort this 100%.
