Crusher eating outputs
I had an issue with my crusher where it was crushing geodes, but the output had all 4 slots filled with sand. And I noticed it kept running anyways. So I opened my crusher and it had an amethyst in the output slot. I went to stop it to remove the amethyst but it was gone, it played the animation of it going into the bin but there was no amethyst there obviously. So does the crusher just eat stuff when it can't output? Is it supposed to do that?

I would assume it's a bug, but I haven't personally noticed it - I got into the habit of using chests for output instead of crates; it's both easier to see where the "output" is, and has higher capacity

It does not eat Geodes. It eats some stuff, I think, like Stone.

In your situation, the Crate had all its slots filled, so the Crusher could not output to it. When a Workstation cannot output, it restarts the production WITHOUT consuming the input resources. Since the Geodes can contain a bunch of different things, it's best to just let it spit out on the floor or into a chest (since it has more slots than a Crate).
So it just crushes any jewels if it doesn't have the space in the output for them?

Technically, yes. It then retries the production again with the same Geode.
That sounds like a bug.

True, it's a small bug, but it doesn't eat the Geode. Just make sure there's space for the output.

Testing this bug and it is very easy to abuse. Fill every slot in the output box with 1 diamond and then put geodes into the crusher. The crusher will keep rolling each geode until it rolls a diamond and then outputs the diamond. You can guarantee that you'll get any specific gem(s) that you want.

In my tests, I found that this slowed down geode crushing substantially, but with multiple crushers, this became a non-issue. I'm not keen on testing this further or with other inputs, but I can confirm it's exploit-y at the very least.
Very good point XD
