Help with mods/modding folder

I'm genuinely so lost and I'm aware this is a silly question but I actually have no clue how to use mods. I'm really confused how to make a modding folder and everything. I'm not trying to make any mods, I just really want to download some cool ones I've seen. If someone could help explain this it would be great, although I know that's easier said than done. I've already looked at the doc the developers made on modding, but I still can't figure it out. If anyone can take the time to answer this, that would be heavily appreciated, but I'd understand if nobody answered. Thanks anyways if you read this :)

If you're on windows you can make a folder in general by right clicking on your mouse and scrolling down to "new > folder" usually!! Most people will have you rename this folder "mods" or "modding" but it's very dependent on the game you are modding.

EDIT: Someone else said there's a mod folder already! If you're looking for how to 'unzip' the file to put the mods into said file, please ask!! :)

there's already a folder for mods in the game's %localappdata% folder. you can put the mods you've installed there! (really, though... i have no idea what you're looking for, this is my best answer, sorry :( )

you can search for "%localappdata%" in your windows search bar, the folder should pop up

Since people have already covered how to find the file, I will explain the unzipping!! So you'll want to right click on your 'zipped' file and go to "extract".

Extract it either directly into the mod file, or anywhere else you would like. If it is elsewhere, you will either have to copy and paste (this can be done with CTRL+C and then CTRL+V after selecting the folder) or just move it directly, which can be done fairly easily if you have two tabs of your files open, one being the folder you need to move, and the other being the mod folder you are pasting it into.

A note to make is that when you just see the folder (just the folder, you cannot see the contents inside as you have not clicked it yet), this is called a "root" if i remember right...? (people with more experience, please correct me if I am wrong!!) Just move the folder itself **unless the mod guide tells you otherwise,** this way you don't have to copy the files!

Hello! Yes, I believe I figured it out, but there's a problem? When I load the game it says my mods successfully loaded, but they're not showing up in any saves? I used new and old and still nothing showed up, including the mod examples from the doc. I'm not sure if there's something else I need to do for the mods to work? Sorry, thank you!

Hi again! I can't thank you enough, you've been so helpful!! FINALLY figured it all out even though I'm not sure what was wrong lol. If you can answer I have just 1 more question about mods and this discussion will finally come to an end! How do I delete a mod? Once again, thank you if you answer :)

you can just delete the mod's folder and it should be gone. if it mysteriously still comes back (it does that sometimes... lmao), you might want to turn off steam cloud sync. right click the game in your library and go into properties, it should be there

Thank you so so SO much for all your help haha, sorry it was such a long process! Turning off sync fixed it bc it just kept coming back every time I deleted it which is why I asked for help over it. Now this discussion is ACTUALLY over finally lmao, I hope you and the other person that was answering have a great day :)
