Easily avoidable.
Just don't ready the Necklace.
It is a 'back-up' fireball, for when your spellcasters get 'hit' prior to their turn, or in some cases, when 'hit' before spellcasting is completed.
After getting 'hit', that is when you 'ready' the necklace, and 'Use' it.
After battle is done, just 'un-ready' the Necklace.
Doesn't happen to me.
When kept 'Un-Ready', I've never witnessed it being used.
Just to be clear, Im currently playing curse of the azure bonds, maybe you are playing something else.
Which is the point that I have been making.
ETA: on CotAB, as well
I don't even use the bugger anymore...
