The first fight (before the skippable fight) did not give any decklist but a nice 4500 VP.
The second fight (the skippable fight) totally ignores all D-skills so even the 1.5X or 2X bonus will not be applied if it was chosen. I have actually defeated this Kanji twice so far and no decklist was unlocked.
The third fight (final fight to credits) did not give any decklist but a nice 10000 VP (all time record for me thanks to the 2X VP).
So I can say that the assumption of using "Don't Hold Back" D-skill set against Kanji to unlock his decklist is wrong. I defeated his deck properly (not that i know of any mods).
I have Yuki's decklist unlocked but i do not recall how it happened. I definitely defeated Yuki in Tohya's side story multiple times if that helps.
Was any particular ride line used? Was a specific D-skill used? Was the difficulty set to easy in any fights? Was any dialog skipped? Was the tutorial skipped? Just trying to figure out any possibilities.
What I did for reference, was once I beat Masaru the first time in Yuki's story, I went out and did vs. CPU an absolutely MESSLOAD of times to get pretty much every normal card currently in the game.
Along the way, I noticed that every few dozen vs CPU fights, I unlocked a character that could be used as a fighter skin in vs CPU and World Fight. (outside of Yuki being default.) Along with them as a CPU Opponent.
Afterwords, I made a Gramgrace deck and went through the story (yes, I did set it to easy difficulty). At every main story beat, I checked around for any Free or FreeVS events and did those.
At the "unwinnable" Kanji Fight, I went with the skip fight option. afterwords, I kept onwards and did the next few fights till I got access to D-skills again, and there I got the D-Skill "My Hope" (disables opponent's D-skills) This is the D-Skill I used the whole time since.
From there, that unlocked Yu-yu's story, which I went and did that with a Nirvana deck. (not Nirvana Jheva). It landed me with Zakusa and Mirei's deck recipes.
After clearing Yu-yu's story, I unlocked Danji's story, which I went through it with Viamance Bruce.
From there, I then finished the rest of Yuki's story with Gramgrace, and "My Hope" active the whole time. And upon clearing the story, I looped back into Yuki's story, skipping the tutorial fight and BAM, got Kanji's deck recipe.
After finishing Yuki's Story, it unlocked Rasen and Tohya's stories.
I proceeded with Rasen's story (I used Rorowa the whole time), getting me Shinobu, Haruka, and Masanori's deck recipes. Then clearing it with the final fight against Yuki.
THEN after that, I started up Tohya's story (I used Bastion), in which the first MainVS fight is against Yuki, beating her unlocked Yuki's deck recipe.
I have already done everything which was mentioned except for fighting in "easy" difficulty and fighting all fights with "My Hope". I have every decklist, cards, sleeves etc unlocked except for Kanji which i never realized until this Topic was raised.
I will probably try the fights in easy in the future when new DLC is out to test the cards. I will update if i discover any specific way that unlocks Kanji.
