Allow me to explain that.
Vanguard technically has three different "Series" currently.
"Classic", "V", and "D".
Classic was when the game first launched 10 years or so ago. where instead of Nations, it was just Clans. Every "Arc" or so, which it counted at four, which I could state as "Original, Limit Break (Asia Circuit), Break Ride (Link Joker)", and then "Legion". Then after the Legion arc, they did a sorta soft reboot by adding in the "G-Unit" mechanic, from there, it added on more Arcs, specifically "G, GIRS Crisis, Stride Gate, G-Next", and then "G-Z". With that, each set added an increase in power creep till it got to ridiculous numbers with the adding of Ultimate Strides in one of the final sets.
From that, Bushiroad decided to just reboot the whole card game.
the major tell would be the card frames would be visually different, and that the corner of the card would have a "V" icon to tell it was part of the "V" series.
While the V-series tried to re-invision the card game as a whole, part of it kindof started to fray. One of the core mechanics of V-series were "Imaginary Gifts". which when you would ride a grade 3 Vanguard, dependant on the clan you were playing, you would get an Imaginary gift applied to you. the effect varies on the type.
"Force" would be placed on a VG or RG circle, and the unit on that circle would get +10000 power, and you could stack them.
"Accel" gave you an additional front row RG circle, and the unit on said circle would get +10000 power, and you could get more.
"Protect" gave you a card you could add to your hand, which served as a PG, an early prototype for Blitz Orders.
Later, after the first season, they would add in alternate versions of said Gifts.
"Force II" Allowed you to set a VG or RG circle, when a Force II would be placed, the unit on that circle would have it's default Critical get +1.
"Accel II" was similar to before but only gave +5000 Power. to off set it, you would draw a card once placed.
"Protect II" would be placed on a RG circle. The unit on the circle would be able to Intercept, and when Intercepting, would get an additional +10000 Shield.
the thing is that you could only pick one type of gift or the other, unless specified.
This further compounded when next season, they introduced "Astral Poets". a sub-group of Genesis that focused on getting as many Force Markers as possible for it's big play. being able to call a GRADE 5 unit!
For the last "Season", they had a one last major change. Starting Vanguards blanket got a new ability.
[AUTO]: When you ride over this unit, if you went second, add a Quick Shield Ticket to your hand.
Orders were just introduced. Most orders had no clan requirement, and had very light power.
But by that time, the power creep has gone to significantly exponential levels. Probably capping off with "Heal Guardians". Grade 3 Heal Triggers which very large shield values.
But yeah, the frustrations with the players, and ESPECIALLY the "Luard" indecent.
It lead to Bushiroad fully rebooting the game AGAIN!
and now we have D-series, aka "Standard".
