My only yet largest complain about the solo is a lack in endgame. Once you finished the stories, there is basically nothing new to do besides either rerun the stories or just do single CPU fights. Talking about CPU fight mode, this is where I think the game can improve the most. You know exactly which deck you are fighting and they are completely the same opponent you run into during story mode (minus the D skills), so it really feels very repetitive. On top of that, since D skills (including the ones that boosts your VP gain) are disabled during CPU fights, you turn out to be always better off to do story reruns VP wise.
I am working towards 100% card collection (4 copies of everything including SP and holo) and omg rerunning Rasen's story mode with a DOTE decks twice a day is boring ah.
Previous Vanguard games have something like a shop tournament where you fix in a deck and play multiple NPC in a knockout stage, which I find more interesting and challenging compared to the current design of you basically know which deck you are running into. I don't expect any new modes to be added (I'm guessing that the dlc cards are already made, and the devs probably have already been disbanded/repurposed), but if they can eventually add something more random to solo, it would really make the game more replayable.
Bavsargra is probably the easiest to build upon because unlike other starter decks you don't need to upgrade you main Vanguard to G4. Craft or pull the overtrigger first, then go for BT04 and look for the Spear, Trickmoon, Adarla, and any other Arms related cards. I'd say with 4 Spears and 3~4 Trickmoon alone you are pretty good, that is 3~4x RRR and 4x RR. You will eventually want to craft 4 Aaushniya (or pull from SS02, which I don't recommend because it's expensive).
Going Lyrical Monasterio has the benefit of you only need to pull from 2 packs (LBT01 and LBT02) and will eventually have cards ready to build many different decks. To update your starter, start off by getting the OT, then keep opening LBT02 for G4 Kairi, Melty, Eileen, and Laplume. That's 8x RRR and 6~7x RR.
Sentinel updates aren't super high priority imo, but do update your draw triggers to the one with 10k shield. Those come in handy.
There will also be decks that are unrelated to the starter decks that you can build down the line like Zorga or Orfist or Greedon.
You asked for a deck to start with, so I gave you some ideas of how to build solid decks cheap and early. All starter decks in this game can be upgraded into decks you can use to beat the game, so it's just unnecessary to dip that and go for something else on the get go, especially if you don't know what deck to build.
While I sort of agree with this, the AI will absolutely whoop your a$$ on other characters story modes or later on in Yuki's story if you aren't careful. The AI in this game is very unfair. You want a challenge, play through the characters story a few times without any beneficial D-Skills and come back to me. While they are all the same deck with the same build you can see from the recipes screen, you can go in as prepared as you want and a lot of times, you'll walk away with an L. Like I said, the AI is very unfair. They will check triggers and have everything in hand required to guard you at almost all times. Again, this is later in Yuki's story or the other characters stories. So yes, you will still get somewhat of a challenge from the AI opponents. But online definitely has more variety. So it's really up to you.
Another thing to add is that the fighter skin DLCs also add additional CPU opponents for you to fight against. And with the the update at the end of September, three more opponents will be available for you to face off against.
