Is it bad to start with 3D mode if you're a beginner?
Everything I've read online says beginners should be learning in acro mode but I feel more comfortable in 3d mode as it allows instant vertical adjustment, whereas in acro it's more like letting off the throttle and waiting for gravity to do its thang.

Will it hurt me later when I buy my first FPV drone if all I practice now is 3D?

I don’t think so, because in 3D mode, only half of the stroke of the rocker is used to control the throttle. When switching to the full stroke to control the throttle force, the control of the throttle will get more details.
What you are worried about is that you can only rely on gravity to give downward force. After getting used to it, most of them will be fine. After all, most of them rely on lift when flying. You only use it occasionally when adjusting the height of the aircraft. The impact should be normal.

It's not so much about transitioning between acro and 3D mode, that I don't seem to have a problem with and can adapt to both modes pretty easily. My concern is more so in regards to the availability of 3D mode on FPV drones. Do all beginner drones come with a 3D mode option? Or is it only a select few? Or do no beginner drones have 3D mode. Those are more the types of questions that come to mind for a beginner like me rn

I Would go with acro as all fpv drones have acro

Thanks. I switched to using acro in all sims. 3D mode does offer a little more versatility with correcting the elevation of the drone really fast but it's not worth the hassle of getting used to it and then running in to problems adjusting tomorrow if certain drones only have acro mode and not 3D.

I read that getting 3D mode takes some tinkering in beta flight and changing motor setups etc, something I have no experience in. So it's all acro from here on

I am an FPV pilot and many of my friends are professional FPV pilots... I have never met anyone who flies in 3D mode.
