I feel like i got scammed.
I loved the demo. I pre-order your game and waiting for the launch to download. Imagine my face when i see your game will be free on epic games at the launch. So dissapointing. It's not cheap, you know?

This might not make you feel any better, but here's some background information I shared in another thread:

A year ago or more, we sent Epic an alpha, and they loved it. It was the first time we'd shared and received feedback on the game, so it was quite the morale booster for the team. They have a program where there's a kind of "game of the week" on the storefront. We were offered to take part in it for modest compensation, which was an exciting prospect for us, as they typically reach quite a large number of players with this. And we want nothing more than to bring our game to as many people as possible. It's for a very limited time, though.

Game development is a tough business (especially now). We’re hoping to reach a massive audience who will become champions for the game and help it spread through word of mouth, ultimately driving sales.

We hope fans will support us so that we can finance our next title, as our ambition is to build a franchise of truly crazy and ambitious games. 😊 Deliver At All Costs is just the beginning, we have something even crazier in the pipeline, though we’re many years away from that. 🤫

only gamers would complain about getting a game for free

What other people do has nothing to do with you. We got the game for free because Sweeney paid our tab. No one scammed you.
Oh no, god forbid we support a decent developer that's giving us a decent game that isn't some AAA trash. If everyone just gets the game free on epic, how are we supposed to keep the game alive and get updates or more games in the future? Theses Devs gotta eat to my dude.

i'm not complaining, i just think this kind of business model is harmful to the industry and things have only gotten worse since epic made their own store and started bribing companies into putting their games for "free"

enjoy your "free" game, though

You pre-ordered, you scammed yourself.
There us always that refund option. Besides, people acting like Epic is a godsend when they give out a free game. Has no one heard of Piracy? Them games are always free. :wow_benji:

This was pretty well known for quite some time.
It's just that your average Steam IQ user has a reddit induced intolerence to Epic store because they were told to.

Yeah things got way worse.
Like they way they are constantly providing funding to countless smaller dev teams to help them get their project going in exchange for a very short exclusivity window - yeah that is appalling.

Or the way they spent money to legally fight big companies to stop them having a monopoly over app stores. That was really anti consumer of them.

Also the way they provide an industry leading technical powerhouse of an engine to use for free with a massive free asset library and loads of free training enabling a developer on any budget to develop games - in exchange for a small percentage of sales over a certain amount - that is really gross.

I also hate how they charge consumers / developers less of each sale as well. Really unfair to Steam who wants to control the market. How dare they.

Of course Steam is a saint. They absolutely aren't a giant business looking at the bottom line. And you don't have to give any personal data to steam whatsoever.

If you want to look up the definition of idiocy you just need to look around at stuff like this.

You got scammed. Never will i ever give Epic even a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dollar. Ive skipped quite a few epic exclusives, and by the time they come to steam i just dont care.
They ripped me off with Fortnite. Ill never forgive them for abandoning the game and switching over to that pvp ♥♥♥♥.
then just refund it

Epic pays the developers, it's not like the giveaways mean those devs get absolutely no money from it. They get money, they get to eat. Gamers get a free game, paid by Epic.
You can just refund your pre-order if it's no older than 14 days. Don't pre-odder games. Why would anyone do that? Digital games don't run out of stock.
epic does also incentive developers into shady tactics for greed. i rather not

This. They pay quite a lot for it. Devs are fine. They get Sweeney money and they have Konami money.

Get outta here with your logical thinking! It isn't welcome on the discussion boards.
